Need camshaft help

Hey everyone! I'm going down the road of purchasing and installing a Magnuson Heartbeat supercharger this summer. I will be doing the install myself as well.

Car: 2011 2ss M6

I decided that I might as well as get a cam upgrade and so I reached out to DynoSteve for some help. Steve has been AWESOME with getting me my Kooks Headers and Roto-Fab intake, plus his free tunes. I trust that he has the right parts for me, I just want to know more in detail what they are all for.

He sent me what he feels is best for a cam upgrade along with other parts to best suit my Supercharger install, but I have NO idea what any of this means. I'm new to the camshaft, springs, etc world.

Would anyone mind helping me undertstand these part numbers?
Also, I will plan to do the camshaft install myself and wanted to know how hard it is to do the springs, valves, push rods, etc. I have done all other work on my car and other cars, but never this deep into the engine.

Cam...54-000-11

13018R/ 13022R HR 116 + 4
231/ 247 duration @ .050
.617/ .624 valve lift
116 + 4 LSA

Spring Kit...26926TS-KIT
Pushrods...7956-16
Timing Set...3158KT

Thank you for all the help

Props to u for tackling this in your own. I would suggest to get this done by a professional since it’ll be your first time doing it, or have some one with you that knows the process. Things could go bad real quick if done incorrectly.

Happy reading

Great advice from cj. The cam specs are good for a blower cam. The chop won't be as heavy as an NA from what I see. But it sits right around most stage 3's do. You should see nice gains from it.

You may want a cam that big, but you don't need it. The pulley size you use on the front of the blower is going to determine your power level more so than cam size. Something like a 224/238 116+2 will make similar power and be a whole lot nicer to drive.

Some just like bigger cams. I understand that. Not really necessary given your choice of blower though. All the bolt ons, milder cam and E85 will return all the Heartbeat has to offer. Makes for a fun ride!

Blower cam .... It chops so hard it could have its own late night infomercial. BTR hardened pushrods Frankenstein .660 dual springs Btr trunnion upgrade. Take the advice from the reputable tuner youre dealing with. Cams are a very broad span of info. Everybody has their likes and dislikes. When I was looking at mine there was lots of opinions. I trusted my tuner who worked with EPS Cam Motion and Geoff Skinner to spec out a custom grind cam for me. The pros....they knows.

This is a 112 +6 LSA.
https://youtu.be/7iXf49IeYsw

Typically the lower the LSA the more it tends to "chop". With my centri blower I was able to have a nice sound and a .637 lift.

Thank you everyone who has replied so far.

I started to read the article sent by RuperPupkin. Has some great info, but im still lost hahaha.. I'll get there.

I do want something choppy, but more important, something that will be easily driveable with the most power.

Some are saying to replace or upgrade the heads, is this done by changing the valve springs, push rods, etc?

thanks
Allen

Depends on your build goal. Stock heads flow very well. I'm still on stock heads, intake, and throttle body and that got me to over 700rwhp. So it's not necessarily the best place to spend your money. Keep in mind the more radical the cam, you will need a stall converter to keep some street manners

I suggest you set yourself a goal and work towards that instead of just going on a buying frenzy. Maybe you want 700hp, maybe 600, maybe an 11 second car, maybe a 10 second car, etc....

Reading makes me tired, hence why I just pay someone. Lol Glad you read it though. I know the very very tip of this whole car game. There’s people on here that are very well versed in this stuff. Search 1st and then ask questions though.

What they meant by replacing the heads is, get a brand new set that’ll flow a lot better, and can handle more power down the road if you decide to beef up your whole setup.

Replacing the springs and rods can be done on stock beards.
