Angry Low Oil Pressure on DIC

Hey Guys, i had a problem with my car the other afternoon. I started car after work only to receive a message on the digital information center....LOW OIL PRESSURE..STOP ENGINE. I got an e mail from On-Star the same morning saying a diagnostic check of the vehicle proved everything checked out OK....Later that evening i got the new message, only to drive the car a mile and the oil pressure gauge went up to 60 psi, by the time i got home i stopped at WaWa and came out n started car and got the same message....drove home and let car sit, then checked oil....everything ok, i started car again and got the same message...and engine began to tap and knock....called On-Star and relayed info and they heard car knock. they sent out a flatbed to pick up car to send to dealer....dealer heard knock and now after 2 days have no info for me.....but i heard the engine knock, now i;m getting a run around.....anyone had this problem ????

That's really scary. Keep us up w/ infor. on your car. I think my has a ticking sound sometimes when I start her up. And then it goes away. I feel when you take it to them they want to act like their isn't a problem and that's scary.

The exhaust popping is normal, that's cause you are in too high of a gear during deceleration, I actually love hearing that sound. That part is normal. As for the engine knocking... best the dealer checks it out. Maybe a small animal? Something got loose in the oil pan/oil filter? Keep us updated.

sounds like your oil pump went out in the engine. Maybe a new engine for you

I highly doubt this - most likely a sensor problem or just the cold temperatures. If you had low or no oil pressure just driving it that short distance would have toasted it. Oil pressure is not always determined by the oil pump producing pressure, there are many other factors involved. As well, remember that with the cold temperatures now the oil has a tendency to become thicker and break down - there are agents in the oil that help prevent this but over time they get broken down. If it got to the point that they did hear a knock then there may be damage but wait and see what they tell you.

Check your oil - make sure you are using a cold weather friendly oil grade and if you have not changed it lately do that as well. Remember that the car has normal operating guidelines - if you are even 1# lower on oil pressure you will trip that DIC warning.

exactly my thought, if it was knocking the bearings could be scored = new engine.

geez, what kind of runaround are you getting? at least the potential issue is on file with the dealer. I'd say it probably was just a sensor...until you mentioned the knocking...if that's something you never heard until that time, there's probably some damage in there...no runaround, make them take care of it.

I love the popping sound. One of my favorite things about the sound. It's not that you have the car in too high a gear, it's that you have the car in a lower gear and for me that is by choice just so I can hear the symphony.

the popping noise is sitting at an idle, not from decelerating to quickly.....as for motor, dealer replaced temp gauge in console so far and no change....monday they will drop the oil pan and replace a sensor and then go from there, i heard it tap and knock, i think the oil pump went or was defective and possibly the bearings spun....i don't believe it had anything to do with the weather and the oil being too thick....and the oil level was still full after i heard the knock
