engine cover
Hey guys quick question. I am thinking about taking the engine cover of of my camaro SS l99. Will doing this cause any kind of over heating? My dad is realy concerned about it so I thought it would be a good idea to see what the experts have to say about it.
Thanks for any help. |

This is just my opinion..but I would think removing the cover would actually cool it down a few degrees, the heater hoses are laying on the intake manifold and are sandwiched between the motor and engine cover.

Yeah....it would actually be the opposite. It will hold in the heat.

It is a heat trap. Dump it unless you are going to a car show and want to open the hood for looks.

Ya thats what I thought. Hey I have heard a rummor that if you take the engine cover off you gain 10hp. Can anyone confirm this?

I have not heard any truth about any HP gain but YES, remove the cover, it only holds the heat in and around the intake. In the past it was known that any time you remove heat from the intake you actually pick up HP. Maybe this is where the 10 HP gain came from. I went one step further and had the heater hose relocation kit installed and the engine compartment looks like , well, an engine compartment now and not a covered up engine.

I actually ordered an IOM engine cover after I got my car. Now I've decided I like the looks without it. I am also going to move the heater hoses etc. to tidy things up. I have some photos, but not a clue how to post them. LOL!
