Ruined Tire

Yesterday morning I checked the tire pressure in the DIC and noticed that the driver side rear tire was down 7 pounds. This can’t be good, I thought. When I got back home I crawled under the car and found a piece of metal sticking out of the tread very near to the inside edge where the tread and sidewall intersect. Damn! When I was a kid I worked in my father’s tire shop for seven years and I know tires. I was concerned that do to the location, a repair in this area may not hold up; it is in a borderline location. We use our Camaro a lot for trips and I do not want to have a problem while three states away from home. My bet is that most tire dealers do not stock this make and size of tire, so I bit the bullet and bought a new one from the Tire Rack. The price was $202 plus shipping, which was lower than I had expected. I placed the order on line yesterday and the tire was delivered by UPS today. I’ve been a Tire Rack customer for many years and have always been pleased with their prices and service. Tomorrow we install it.

I have no idea when or where it happened. It lost about one pound in 24 hours, so it could have happened a week or longer ago. I’ve been driving for 40 years and cannot recall the last time I had a tire ruined. It had to be decades ago. I’m angry that it happened to a tire on the Camaro, but it could have been worse.

Put a plug in it and use as a spare. If it holds air it will be fine.

I had to replace one tire when I curbed a wheel. About ripped out the side wall... I got my tire for $217, and free shipping. How much did you pay for shipping?
