Anyone wonder about the antenna?
So is the radio antenna integrated into the windshield/rear window or is the shark fin a combo of XM/OnStar/& AM/FM radio?
I've been reading these forums for months and have never seen anyone bring it up, so I finally registered just so I could ask! |

From http://www.visualgarage.com/Product_How_It_Works.html
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Utilizing fractal antenna technology, we were able to develop a functional antenna that fits inside the shark fin and retains radio reception within normally acceptable ranges. A fractal antenna is created using fractal geometry (repetition of a simple shape to form a repeating pattern) and has reception that rivals antenna designs 50% to 150% larger in size. Though the stock antenna will usually still provide better reception, through testing, we found that the VG Shark Fin Antenna performed consistently better than any stubby antenna fitted on the same car. Using a coiled cord, the fractal antenna is attached to the stock antenna base with an attachment screw. The use of a coiled cord eliminates the extra cord that would otherwise be in the way of installation, allowing you easier positioning. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I used on of these on my Mazdaspeed6 a few years back. Mainly to hide the aftermarket Sirius antenna. It worked well on the FM side not great on the AM side. I'm sure that factory antennas are probably a better product though. |

And that kills the idea of getting rid of the shark fin and still have a functional radio :(

They should just do the rear-window antenna like the one in my 05 Impala. Works great, and it's virtually invisible. Then if you opted out of OnStar and XM, you'd have no gaudy black plastic sticking out of your roof!

This is so typical of GM, Cheby hides the XM antenna in the door mirrors on the Corvette, they have since 2006. Only the first year C6 had the “wart”. History repeats itself.
GM’s inability to sweat the little things never ceases to amaze me. |

I dont want the service or the black plastic sticking out of my roof when I order, I will be deleting Onstar with the correct RPO code.

Same here, why would they get rid of the fin on the C6 in 07, only to put it on the Camaro in 09? Maybe they have all these antennas left over and need a place to use them? This is why I wont buy the first year, its hard not to but the details need to be right first.
