Anyone Install Viper Alarm/Remote Start on Manual?

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has had their manual Camaro (or any other manual vehicle) fitted with Viper alarm and remote start. Does it work well? Also, what do you do with the extra transponder? Let me know what you guys think!

I have a viper starter on a different car and enjoy it. However, its on an auto truck. I just put the extra transponder in my drawer.

Not a real good idea for a manual trans.

I had the viper 791xv system installed on my F250 that I just sold a couple weeks ago and I couldn't stand it. The brain went bad 4 times and false alarmed like crazy. It would sometimes even start up in the middle of the night by itself making me run outside like a crazy man in my boxers. They do have great customer service though, always replaced the components for free no questions asked.

It can be done if you bypass the clutch starter interrupt switch. That's fine - IF - you always remember to park your car in neutral and put the hand brake on. If you have the clutch switch bypassed and the car parked in gear, the engine will turn over and the vehicle will move as you use your remote start..... not good for many obvious reasons.

That's why most if not all reputable dealers and alarm install outlets will not install a remote start on a manual transmission. Way too much liability involved.

I'm not sure if they have a set up for the Camaro yet, but I highly recommend a CompuStar remote starter.. I had one in another manual previously and it worked great. It was NOT functional if you did not do a very specific sequence when parking. stop, shift to neutral, feet off pedals, put the emergency break on, turn car off (the car would remain on, so you knew you did it right, and it would shut off and lock your doors when you shut the door. It kind of seems like a lot, but once you did it a couple times you could be shut down and out in the normal 2 seconds. The only half annoying part is if you had to go into your car to grab something, to re-arm the system you had to turn it on and do it all over again. small price to pay for an incredible system.

I saw a dude remote start his manual Honda into a bowling alley wall. That was pretty awesome. Haha.

It can be done, but there are risks, and make sure to let people know with a sign that they can't remove before letting them touch the car!!! This is what happens when things go wrong.

He is right...I have seen the compustar system on our cars and it works great....unless you follow the sequence the car does not start...I will be getting this system in the next couple of weeks.

I have remote start on mine. I never leave it in gear, though. Mine is also equipped with a kill switch, so I can disable it when I'm dropping it off for maintenance or letting a friend drive it (not that I ever let anyone else drive it).

I've never understood why people leave manuals in gear when parked.

So it won't roll in case the e-brake fails.

That is only the case on a hill. You can also point your wheels so that if the car rolls it will get stopped by the curb.

True. Like I said, I never leave mine in gear.
