The wife and I took the SS to the Battlefield to pay respects to fallen men and women of Civil War and got some awesome pics while visiting...

Sorry for the history lesson....

The slaughter at Bloody Lane became one of the most memorable and tragic events of the battle, thanks to the participation of New Yorks, "Irish Brigade". The Union troops attacking the road were in serious trouble when they saw the emerald banner of the Irish Brigade appear on the horizon. The Irish announced their arrival with the sounds of drums and volleys of fire as they attacked the Confederate position.

The Brigade fought fiercely and fell in huge numbers. They fired all of the ammunition they had and then collected what they could from the dead and wounded and fired that too. Eventually the Irish Brigade lost more than 60 percent of their men that day.... and wrote their name in the bloody pages of American history.

I live in Williamsport, MD which is the 12 mile wide piece between WV and PA.We are really close to where I-81 and I-70 interchange. It took me 10 to 15 minutes to get to the Battlefield. I waited for a pretty day out so we could get some nice pictures.

We spent the weekend at Gettysburg a few weeks ago as a side trip from a DC vacation. Very moving experience. I had been to several Civil War battlefields across the south but the Gettysburg battlefield is so well preserved and the topography so pronounced, I could visualize the battle with crystal clarity. Everyone should visit that site at least once.

I have seen Gettysburg on a lot of TV shows about being haunted...
There were a lot of people that gave their lives in the Civil War and I agree with you that everyone should visit and learn first hand at least once in their life. I am not a big history buff but living so close to the Battlefield you get a better understanding as to what really took place for us to have the Country we live in today. Take the Sunken Road "Bloody Lane" , There were bodies 4 and 5 deep laying there from the battle...
