the real question is why are there 5000 stupid Mustang buyers who can't wait for a month or so.

For all who said Mustang was taking over...
^_^

Now the big question, will the 5.0 take the cake? Personally i dont think so, i think it will be a close race but i still think the 2010 Camaro being a completely brand new car and brand new design and just all the hype wrapped up in it will keep it just a hair above the 5.0, thats my prediction at least haha

If Chevy wants to stay ahead the dealers will have to get out of the 2SS heavy mindset they have right now. The 2SS is great but now that production has ramped up and the initial enthusiast rush is done they need a wider variety of Camaro's on the lot. At least if the local OKC dealers are any indication with 55 Camaro SS (46 2SS) with only 35 V6's (22 2LT, 13 1LT, 0 LS, they're leaving a huge price gap between the entry level Mustang and Camaro off the lot prices of around $7k (including Ford's $1k incentive).

Example from a quick check of the online inventory for my area:

There are a dozen Mustangs in the $20-$23k range within twelve miles and dozen more if you expand that to $26k.

There are only eight 1LT Camaro's and they're all optioned up to $27-$29k (technically one is just under at 26,840) and that's with a much larger radius of over thirty miles. (There are thirteen but I'm not including the five Synergy Green Edition's; while technically 1LT's they are something of a mid-level 1.5LT with that $2,000 option)

There are eight Mustang GT's in that same $27-$28k price range within a dozen miles which with the current pricing and stock choices is what the entry level Camaro is competing against here.

I work at a Ford dealer. Every month all the head honchos at Ford have a televised meeting via satelite to discuss sales figures. The owner of my dealer watches it and if im in the office i'll listen while im doing my paperwork, around August of last year they expected the Mustang to start outselling the Camaro because they thought the fad was wearing off. I heard part of the October and December meetings and they are really worried about the Camaro still outselling the Mustang. Ford is really pushing the dealers to order and sell more Mustangs. Even with the rebates Ford is offering on the Mustang the Camaro is still outselling them at MSRP.

I agree. The majority of the articles I read during 4th Gen era attributed the Mustang sales numbers to lower pricing. I expect that to continue. The same thing probably explains why those 5,000 folks bought Mustangs last month regardless of the upcoming HP increases. Camaro is still hovering close to MSRP, Mustang has stout factory rebates and dealers are willing to cut further.

Will there be an uptick in sales in the coming months due to the higher output engine? Most likely. Will it be significant enough to overtake the Camaro sales? Welllll, maybe. Having the highest HP motor will only matter to a narrow category of buyers. Mustang and Camaro may be in the same general category, but from someone who has driven and loves both cars, I consider them to be VERY different vehicles.

All I know and care about is that I'm THRILLED that there is enough interest in modern muscle to keep it going!

Not sure why this is front page news. Everyone knows the interest is in the 2011 Mustang.

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/26/2...-a-good-start/

You want to count the 11,000 pre orders? (Keep in mind the Mustang wasn't off the market for six years) Enjoy the ride because it comes to an end during the 2011 model year. Which will push GM to improve the Camaro making it a win/win for fans of both cars.

The kicker is right now the 2011 V6 seems to lead sales. Which I can understand as the previous engine was terrible.
