gas mileage
Ok, I have driven my 2LT RS V6 Camaro and I am only getting around 17 miles per gallon. What am I doing wrong. I don't drive it very hard, and I have only driven it on the highway a few times. I called the dealer and he said it would be bad until it is broken in (at about 5000 miles). I just want to make sure nothing is wrong at this early stage.
Thanks for all your help, Tim |

you have not provided enough information... do you drive it on the highway most of the time, or are you driving it mainly in stop and go traffic? What kind of mileage were you expecting to get?

Really, if you buy a Camaro no matter what engine, you should know the gas mileage is going to be horrible.
Mine is the same as yours, I lose 40 dollars a day on gas.

I have a SS with full bolt-ons and a tune. I get 16.1 to the gallon and I drive her pretty rough at times.
Not bad I think. I do find it odd though that you're V6 is getting just barely better gas mileage then me. |

I am averaging 24.4 MPG. I drive rural highways and stop/go city traffic daily. I do not drive at all conservatively. When I get the chance to (safely) I get on it pretty good. My mileage did improve when I changed to a "Top Tier" (www.toptiergas.com) gasoline & again when I went to 93 octane (responsiveness is also quite a bit better). My car already had about 200 mi on it when purchased so it is possible breakin has something to do with it. I can't speak to that.

I have 5000 miles on my L99 and this most recent tank I got 15.8 MPG. It all depends on how you drive though. I suspect I could get better MPG if I took my foot out of it a bit.

Sounds normal to me. 17/29 is it's rating and you haven't driven on the highway much so no reason for it to be near the 29 mark. It should improve a bit over time but I wouldn't say it's bad.

Heres my link to a similar discussion with better results from the V6. As an update I just switched over to synthetic fluids and am now getting 29.8 mpg with a projected total of 540 miles on one tank of gas. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ht=gas+mileage

I have to ask, do you have a long daily commute, OR are you just enjoying it so much you are driving it a lot?
