I'm not being a smarta** by any means.. but why are you the only one saying you don't need a tune after LT headers? I really don't know either way which is right, I'm honestly asking? Why do they say yes and you say no?

to get rid of the cel yes you NEED a tune, if youre untuned with longtubes your car will not get the maximum horsepower out of the headers also "they say" running untuned with longtubes will create you car to run lean over time, which is not good for your motor.

I have not heard of anyone that has longtubes and has not had their check engine light come on. Mine came on immediately (with Kooks) but others have said it took much longer. The whole point of the tune is not only to harness the torque and horsepower you can gain from LT's, and of course to calibrate your engine to the new headers. Maybe some professional tuners can chime in on the dangers of not tuning.

Also, when you get your car on the dyno and then tuned, they do not only alter things that have to do with the headers. My tuner did so much with the transmission and torque management that it feels like a completely different car. So when you think about getting a tune, realize that it is doing much for the car then turning the check engine light off and gaining power from the headers. It is a damn good investment.

I am in the same boat i really really want long tubes and a tune but its not what this will cause to go wrong, cars have a mind of their own IMO and stuff sometimes just happens and if whatever that may be mechanical I dont want to be stuck with the bill.

If your warranty is you man concern, stick to appearance mods.

If you only want a little risk add a CAI and a cat-back. CAI adds a few HP, Cat-back = nothing.

LTs and high flow cats add more risk and more HP.

With LTs rear O2 extenders help prevent codes without tuning out the rear O2s.

Tune even more warranty risk.

Cam - forget about it.

But I think most would here recommend a tune with LTs.

Dude if you want long tubes get them. Talk to Highcompression. He did his about 3 months ago and so far he has not thrown a CEL code. He used 2" O2 Extenders to off set the rear O2 sensors and trick the computer into thinking the reading is different.

Basically the code is because the rear O2 is reading the same as the Front one. By buying the extender you move the sensor out of the direct path of the exhaust and therby tricking it because it gets a defferent reading then the front one and No Code.

This is my understanding as well. I swear I read a post by one of the vendor/tuners on here that said LT's do not cause the engine to run lean or rich.......I could be wrong, but almost positive I seen this. Also, I believe member "Highcompression" has been running LT's with NO tune for some time now, with no code as mentioned above by CamaroCowboy.

I was in the same boat as the OP regarding the warranty and getting a tune, but I can't take it any longer... So I'm getting LT's and a tune this spring. I believe these motors were built to run free, with no issues.

to the above posts i read hicompressions install thread and he has antifoulers on the plugs and i was thinking about that but until i get word from a trust worthy tuning specialist that lt's with no tune wont harm the motor im not going to do it.
