Camaro got impounded yesterday :(

So, I was driving from Idaho to Calgary with my girlfriend. We were a few miles before entering fernie in BC. I was doing an average of 120 km/h, so 20 km/h over the speed limit. Then i found my self behind this semi, and I decided to pass it in the passing lane. (it was a short passing lane) on a two way highway with lots of curves, so i decided to take this chance to pass it, while i was passing it, i took the camaro to 150 km/h to get back on my lane. few moments later, an unmarked RCMP pulls me over for excessive speeding. He wrote me a ticket for 370 and impounded my camaro SS in fernie for 7 days !!! Its a big pain to see my SS sitting in a mechanic lot with no shade and dusty environment, front fascia covered with mosquitoes and bugs and all exposed to the sunlight ( there is no impound parking, so they take the cars to a lot with a mechanic, apparently they have an agreement with RCMP). They kept the keys. I have to go back next week to get it back, and its a 4 hr drive. Its a hard way to learn the lesson. I will do my best to not break any laws again. I was wondering if anybody has had any similar experiences ? any advice besides sticking to the speed limit ? this happened in BC, Canada.

What's the purpose of having extra power if you can't use it. Passing legally in a Camaro, or any other performance car, it is very easy to go faster than the speed limit as compared to a Corolla. It is usually much safer as performance cars pass quicker and handle and brake better. I just don't get impounding the car for going up to 50km/h(31mph) over in a 100km/h(62mph) for this. I would definitely fight this and get a lawyer if you feel you were in the right, or at least not wreckless, and the officer was being illogical in his decision to impound the car. Did he get you on Radar/Lidar? If so, did he show you? Or was this just a visual? I don't know how LE in Canada is compared to the USA. I could live with the ticket, but, I would be pissed for the impoundment.

Then... I guess it's not "passing legally" then, is it? OP was speeding - period.

Then again, because we have the extra umph and handling, it is often tempting to pass in areas where we probably shouldn't - short passing lane, sharp curve ahead, limited visibility ahead, oncoming vehicles, etc. Faster does not equal safer, no matter how you spin it.

OP, just don't speed. It's really that simple. You car would be in your garage right now if you just went the posted speed.

I never understand why people buy a 40k car and mods galore but fail to invest in a $500 radar.... LOL

I set my speed warning on my readout, but this thing can get to 150kmh in a hurry getting on the Highway.

You just have to be careful.

Did you also lose your license for a week?

Radar detectors are illegal in Canada.

They seize it then make you run it over to destroy it,possibly causing a flat:(

You also get a nice fine and lose some points:(
