They are hoping with heads/cam/meth to crack 700rwhp, but that is all the 1.7L has in it.

LSA/LS9 make plenty of low end, enough to make traction just about nonexistant, so adding more low end to a PD blown v8 to me gets to the point of being silly.
Yup. Went down that road with my C6. At 625rwhp it was an awesome street car. I could hook a sticky summer tire in 2nd gear. At 750rwhp it wasn't as fun because I couldn't hook until 3rd gear. One reason I may not do a cam in my ZL1 if I can get 600-625rwhp just adding boost and porting the snout. I can add some nitrous for the 1/2 mile events so those pesky turbo BMW's don't beat me anymore.

Good point; Cadillac will need to focus on the combination of luxury and power, since 640 hp alone isn't really raising eyebrows with the Hellcat sedan present. The power rating is outstanding, but its the fact that the hp competition has heated up between the domestic brands to such a point, that IMO one doesn't readily get impressed by a given hp rating by itself.

No ... it means that the new CTS-V has 640 hp. Anything more is speculation & conjecture.

We don't know if there is going to be a new ZL1, or if there is going to be anything replacing the ZR1. So I don't see how you can say what either car will be based off this.

And honestly, I don't see how this in anyway forecasts a new ultra high performance Corvette. In the last generation, shortly after the most powerful Corvette ever came out, the CTS-V got a less powerful variant of the engine in that car. Now, shortly after the most powerful Corvette ever came out, the CTS-V is getting a less powerful variant of the engine in that car.

Who'd ever think that 640 hp wasn't enough?????
Based on the released weight of 4145 lbs/640hp=6.48 lb/hp, compared to the Charger at 4562/707=6.45 lb/hp, it ends up being pretty damn close.

Yes, the two cars are very evenly matched in terms of numbers. However, I'm willing to bet good money that the CTS-V will be the better balanced of the two.

I suspect however the CTS-V is going to command a fairly healthy premium over the Hellcharger. The current -V already matches the Hellcat in price, and this car is better equipped. It will not shock me if the CTS-V commands a $6,000 jump over the Dodge.

Yeah, but maybe they'll fix that in a year or two.

I wonder if the drop to 640 HP, 630 lb-ft is the result of wet sump. Otherwise the same. It is labeled LT4

Probably a fairly healthy combination of things, not limited to the wet sump system, a more restrictive exhaust path and maybe an intake difference. The same thing happened when the V6 was transplanted over from the old CTS when the 5th gens first came out. They used the old ratings from the CTS, but when they recertified it for the Camaro it gained power due to a different arrangement.

Good points. Significant is that the LT4 is being put directly into another car without detuning to protect Corvette. Any losses appear to be incidental
