how to verify original first gen's

I am searching for a 69 Z/28. I found one for sale in the paper for $9,800. The photo shows the car as indeed a 69 z/28, hugger orange with white stripes, and looks just fine, like its been in a garage. Red flag went up for me, no way is that possible that car for that price ( yeah right).
But if it is how do I know if its real or some type of clone remake? Is there a website i can go to, or has someone in here made some sort of list of things to look for? ( searched but no luck). I emailed them to initiate conversation and get the story on it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, sounds like the owner doesn't like money. Shame, shame.

Matching numbers, get the VIN and it can be checked. This is just one site that might be able to do so and I know there was a time you could do so through GM, with VIN to see if engine was original or not.http://www.autocheck.com/consumers/g...FReenAod-kx6FQ

Before I decided on a new gen 5 I was looking for a 67-69 and this price seems a little suspect. An original with matching numbers could be had for a range of 40K - 80K depending on the overall condition. This may help once you get the VIN http://www.vehicleidentificationnumb...in_detail.html

There is too much to cover on the topic here. Go to www.camaros.net/forums and do a search there. Also www.Camaros.org is another good website for finding out how to authenticate a real 69 Z/28. I can tell you right now that the car is BS. No running/driving/decent looking '69 Z/28 can be had for less than 25K. I know of projects selling for 30K.

Be very careful because the crooks out there are getting very good at building a fake car.

thanks everyone. I will start to make my own checklist from the links and info you have provided. Hylton and Master, those thoughts ran through my head as well, that is why I need to educate myself and not get taken. But again thanks all.
