Talking Ordering my ZL1!

The wife said no to a BMW M3, too expensive, the wife said no to a BMW 135i, too small...

The wife said YES to a 2013 ZL1. So, next week she's going to the dealership to order my 2013 Ashen Grey ZL1. So excited! I'd go, but i'm currently in Afghanistan as a contracted UAV operator. It hopefully will be waiting for me when I get home May 1st for my month leave!

EDIT: Dealership I'm working with seems to be insistant on placing the order tomorrow and was wondering if this could be a legit 'need' or just typical dealership hurrying. I don't need to take delivery of the ZL1 till May 1st as I'll be out of country till then. Below is quote from dealer:

"John I really need to put the order in tomorrow so is there any way your wife could call me and I can take the deposit over the phone. Also yes the $1000 come off the total of the vehicle. Let me know."

Thanks, GO WINGS, hopefully they make the play-offs as usual so I can take the ZL1 up to a game!

Bump for question that has been edited into OP. Need help from the people who know about the order/delivery time of the ZL1, dealership has said i have to order tomorrow (otherwise i'd be ordering no later than next week) I don't need to take deliver till May as i won't even be in country till then. Thanks for your help in advance!

Oh, and if this dealer decides to keep playing 'you have to do it now!' games, i'll take ya'lls advice and get my car from Becky Detroit's only a 90min drive or so from Indiana!

I think you should talk to Becky first! You'll get the most reliable salesperson out there and she's on top of things.

From my understanding if you want to have your car by May you should order it ASAP so that it will get built in that time. The ZL1 is in high demand and with limited numbers being built at a time your dealer is probably right in saying you need to order it right away.

Wow, people from Cali and NJ raving over a dealer in Detroit, that can't spell anything but a fantastic customer experience.

I've already emailed her, and I may just continue down that path. I'll see what the local says here in the next couple hours regarding why the urgency. I have read that dealers only get certain allocations / year or something along those lines.

Thanks for all your replies, part of me feels if I do the easy thing and stay local I'll be missing out on a great experience dealing with Becky, hopefully the local dealer blows it! hah!

Rodgers Chevrolet are awesome - even in simple things like ordering parts they go well above and beyond the normal line offered by other dealerships - if you are only 90 mins away I would definitely go there.

Besides, that "must place the order today" line is rubbish - whilst ZL1s do operate on allocations, they are only picked up once a month, and on Tuesdays - so you would have until at least Tuesday if it is ZL1 week, and longer if it isn't ZL1 week.

No orders get picked up on Saturdays as far as I am aware.

I live in Detroit and Becky is a friend of mine. I can tell you that in addition to being the best sales person around, she's just plain good people.

Becky is freaking awesome. I would of got my 2013 from her but my dealer felt bad for damage a tech had done to my 2010 and gave me 3000.00 more for my 2010 than Becky could give. Becky's price for retail was better than theirs by 1000.00 but they ended up being 2k cheaper due wanting to keep me and saying sorry for damaging my old car.

Being self-employed that 2K goes along ways towards my bills.

Some questions your wife should ask before putting down the deposit - to make sure your Dealer is ready to place order with GM:
  • Confirm they have ZL1 allocation (Dealer gets only so many based on previous Camaro sales - mine had 3 for 2012)
  • Verify their DOSP cycle is ready to accept allocation (Dealer Order Submission Process)
  • Dealer will give her a GM order number the day your deposit is placed (or very shortly thereafter), this allows you to track the production process on line
Good luck!! This whole ordering process seems a mystery to me but have seen various threads here on C5 to learn the basics of ordering from a Chevy Dealer.
