Getting BCM programmed

I'm reading all this stuff about people modding their cars by adding options their cars did not have from the factory. I keep reading people saying stuff about getting the BCM reprogrammed to enable those options - in addition to the hardware part of the mod.

How does one get the BCM reprogrammed?

When I think about that, I imagine myself calling a dealer and talking to the service writer and having him/her say, "You can't do that." I imagine that some techs would know about doing it, but you don't get to talk to a tech when you call.

So, how do you do it?

Is it so easy that it's not an issue, or does nobody know?

There are some threads that have the instructions from GM that tell the tech how to update the BCM for say the steering wheel radio buttons and for recognizing the PDIM (USB port center console) when adding to a radio that didn't come with one. As for cost..... my dealership charged me an hour of labor... $100 roughly

^ Just got quoted roughly $110 plus taxes for SWC programming but no warranty because they didn't install.

I had to pay $120 just to have them enable the reverse option on my factory mylink radio after I installed the reverse camera that cost me an additional $300. BTW after they enabled the option it now gives me the option to turn it on and off in the settings. WTF Chevrolet couldn't you just have left the option turned off from the settings in the first place so the customer could turn it on once they installed a backup camera? Its funny what greed does.

Thanks guys.

LiquidDragon,
I'm guessing it's a thing where they don't want people to see it in the options, try to turn it on, then call complaining that their backup camera doesn't work.
