FastLife95, the guys have already covered your questions and concerns.....Just do your homework and have your bases covered BEFORE you put your money down......How your goinjg to pay for it......and how much its going to cost to INSURE it......just be smart and get all your ducks in a row from the start.

OH AND BTW.....Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Do you and your parents credit a favor and buy something for around $6,000 or less....Finance it then pay cash and pay it off as soon as the first bill comes due that will help restore the credit...Your insurance will be SKY HIGH on an SS and if it's Halo's you want then wait until you are 18, save your money until then and buy a Camaro then...If you look thru this forum you will find a lot of guys who drove crappy cars for a very long time and have rewarded themselves with Camaro's when they got older...I hope you get that Camaro some day

Not to sound rude but I'd wait at least 4 years till I get the camaro - a 16 year old behind a V8 with 426 horses doesn't sound good ... Your insurance is gonna be crazy and so will your payments and how much money can you possibly be making at 16 years of age unless your a spoiled kid and gets everything from mommy and daddy and doesn't understand the value of a dollar - sorry had to be the first to say it

you should be fine.

if your parents are putting down 13,000, even if the credit score is ZERO, they will STILL be able to get financing.

don't worry. it might be at 20.00% interest but they WILL be HAPPY to sell you the car.

the dealerships have contacts with loan people who handle loans for folks with some bumps in their credit.

Mellish50 here on the forum drives a 2011 2SS "he is 19 now. but his first Camaro when he was 16 was V6. Surprising his Insurance went down when he got the 2SS from the 2LT. Although. He pays high insurance because of his speeding ticket (not camaro related at all.) The insurance actually isnt that bad to be honest.

So, I'm gonna be turning 16 in about half a year, and I really wanna get my hands on the 2012 2SS, or possibly a '13. My question was regarding buying one; my parents are willing to put down a $13k down payment, but their credit is terrible..will the dealership still let them drive it off the lot?

TL;DR Is my parents' credit going to affect whether or not I can drive my camaro off the lot?

If I were you I would get a job at a gas station pumping gas for the next year or so, then you can add your own money to the $13k and get a better deal...errr aaa scratch that....forgot...no more jobs for pumping gas anymore. Maybe washing widows??

If your going to be 16, you might want to think about getting a V6. Nothing against you, but if I'd had a car as fast as a SS Camaro, when I was 16, I wouldn't be alive now. I had a 69 COPO 427 Camaro when I was 19. It was really no faster than than a new SS, and I damn near killed myself in it. The V6's are plenty fast. You'll still be able to kill yourself. It'll just take longer. The insurance will be more reasonable also.
I'd hate to think what payments and insurance would add up to, on a new SS, with your parents having bad credit and you being 16. You can still get those halo lights you like, on a V6, as long as you get a RS.

He sounds like a nice responsible young man...I am "SURE" that he is a good safe driver who would never think of speeding or anything of that nature. And I can tell by his post and nice puncuation that has never even had a ticket. He will do just fine in an SS.

Wow u have awesome parents there. Willing to put a nice dp on a car, then finiance the rest when they obviously cant handle $$ well, hence the "terrible credit" and pay a high interest rate just so their son can have a car of his dreams? Are they going to pay the huge car ins payment too? I cant imagine the ins on a 16yr old w a v8! Im all about parents wanting to buy their kids their first car but this is crazy! Its stupid to buy this powerful car for an unexperienced 16 yr old. My parents bought my first car and I wanted a camaro but was told it was too powerful for a starter car. I was pissed at the time but I agree now. Got a Z24 cavalier instead

Buy a used SS. Im sure some jealous kids at a high school would love to play with a "new" SS.
