Bizarre electrical issue?
Had the ZL1 for 6 months now and love it. But it's having what to me at least is a bizarre electrical issue. Maybe you guys can give me a clue. Let me emphasize: the car runs COMPLETELY normally.
BUT...it drains my cell phone. I have a USB cord running from the "cigarette lighter" in the center console to the phone. Another 'post' plugged into the front cigarette lighter also provides a port. Both drain the phone. I have tested this very carefully and can certify that even though the phone shows it is charging, having it plugged into the car drains the phone power faster than not having it plugged in. ONLY when the phone is completely off will it charge, and then only at a rate of about 2% per hour of driving. Addtionally, something about the Bluetooth is a vampiric grade power suck. "Vampiric" in that it'll take the phone from 100% to 12% in half and hour and that with the phone plugged into power. Also plugged in is an IPOD (the USB port in the center console), and radar detector wired in to the fuse box. Having the radar detector and IPOD disconnected makes no difference at all. Any insight on this? |

What brand of phone is it. Since you mention you have an iPod, is it safe to say you have an iPhone.
I have heard that some people have had issues with any brand of USB cable other than a genuine Apple USB cable. That the only thing that comes to mind. |

My guess it's an IPhone. If so try a different cord. Preferably and iPhone cord not an after market cord. If not either try a different phone all together.

Sounds like the charging block you're using is sh*t and not strong enough to power the iphone. Try a new one.

Newer phones tend to need more amps, also don't the USB ports shut of when the ignition is off?

I just acquired a 2013 ZL1. Drove it home, 200 miles. Samsung phone was at 9% when I left, 12% when I got home. Not in use during travel. I used the USB port in center console.

OP and anyone else who has slow charging devices might want to try this little guy. It's in my car currently which fast charges my phone when paired with a legit fast charge cable. Hope this helps https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
