If you can get them all out in large batches I'd imagine you could turn a profit on them. Good luck regardless!

The LFX emblems you wish someone made... In the making

I know you can insert a picture and trace over it in Autocad, then import that drawing into Solidworks and start making it 3d for 3d printing. This is usually what I do as I can draw 2d in Autocad so much faster than solidworks. |

Okay then that's what I will do! Haha. And yes, Autocad is worlds better than Solidworks for 2D, so much quicker to draw and process.

I prefer the traditional X like in the emblems that Jason made. That X is... I don't know.

+1 They do look nice, but not the look I was going for personally. I do feel like Emblempros could make something similar, to what I want, but I like trying to make my own stuff. This is borrowed from their site... Close, it's got the X, but not quite what I'm looking for. I did get a chance to make a first mold, but I had an issue with the degassing chamber so it's not perfect. I'll still try and make a couple emblems and see what they look like, but I will have to make another mold I'm sure. |

Yep I hear you, I would love to try and make my own stuff if I had conditions for such things... the end result product will be much more appreciated that way
As for the "X" sign ... I'm just the opposite though, I wanted to get something closer to ZL1 hood emblem and as such this is perfect outcome(for me) I will love to see this project finished as well, I can see how this emblem will look great on the trunk, fenders or in the engine bay.. so keep us posted.. |

So I decided to try out Shapeways for their 3d printing services to see how the quality was... The Shapeways pieces showed up today, and I must say, they are pretty damn awesome. I almost don't even want to make a mold anymore. Just have them 3d printed, and fill the letters with colored resin plastic... See attached below... Both of the black and white plastics are a flat-ish finish, so you can't even see the black because it doesn't reflect much light... Thinking maybe these could be clear coated before filling the letters to make them glossy?
I REALLY like the Alumide one (Alumide is Nylon Plastic filled with Aluminum dust. This dust gives Alumide the sparkle)... I ordered some syringes to easily fill the letters, and my own mold, so I will be attempting a little of everything as soon as they show up. |
