Yes, its a 200 watt amp. I dont like messing around with the audio. I did it in my old camaro, not a fan. Thats why I'm insterested in the MTX Factory Sub. The ease of installation is worth $780 (shipped from GM Parts Direct), thats why I'm getting the Factory Box.

I had been looking for a pic of this actually installed... nice.
I'm sure it's loud enough cause my 2001 camaro has the 10inch MTX Thunderform with the built in 200 watt amp and it sounds just right for me... Adding another sub and sharing the wattage would probably sound just right as well...considering that this is not a hatchback anymore and more power or air movement is needed to overcome the seats... I have the 2SS and will be upgrading my system as well since bass sucks in it... I can barely even tell it's there... but then again, I've always had at least a 10inch or 2 12inch subs in my cars... I do agree that it is a lot for that setup... I mean... you're paying for convenience... so everyone to their own... I wish I was able to get my hands on that harness so that I could tap into it instead of the actual wires going into the amp... I will probably be going with a single 10inch 10W3V3 with a Corner Stealth Box... I'm not into pounding bass anymore... I just want a little bump inside the cabin and dont want anything that will make the trunk rattle... When I had 12s in my camaro, my trunk rattled and I hated that... i think it is embarrassing.... When I moved to a 10 inch... The bass inside fills the car and there is no rattle to the trunk... I expect to do the same in my 2SS.. Question: Do the 2 10s MTX setup make your trunk rattle? Does it make anything inside rattle or vibrate? |

200 for two 10's is not much at all... 200 for a single is probably minimum. my last sytem was 250 watts per channel. 2 10's in a band pass.

Well I picked up the GM system today. A local dealer sold it for 866.00 out the door, and I am going to have them install it as well. I had looked at several systems and decided for a little more I would have a gm system covered by warranty.

Anyone know the difference between the stock MTX sub and JL or Kicker? I mean what would keep someone from changing them out?

These MTX Subs are .35 OHMs each wired in series for a near 1 OHM Load to the internal amp (.7)... It is impossible to find subs with these specs... They are specially made by MTX for their 200Watt internal amps..
I went through this whole mess when replacing an MTX Sub for my 2001 enclosure that came with the built in amp... The sub was damaged in shipment and I first replaced it with a 4 ohm sub... I had to turn the bass all the way UP on my receiver... Then I replaced it with a dual 2 ohm sub wired parallel for a 1 ohm load and that was a major improvement even though all the car audio installers said that the amp wouldn't handle this.... after more digging, I found out more of the 200 watt amp specs and bought some used .35 ohm MTX Subs from Ebay and WOW! What a differece! The bass just came alive in my system and it actually hit hard... I'm pretty sure that all of the subs included in he 200watt internally loaded enclosures are .35 ohm... In other words, I would not recommend replacing the mtx subs with different subs... The amp will not give them near 200 watts because there will be too much of a difference in the load / ohm rating.... |

If you have a spare tire, can you still access it with the MTX system?
