When could a generation V engine make it into the Camaro?

When do you think a generation V engine could find it's way into the Camaro? Of course it is not ready yet but any ideas? 2012 Model?

That's a decent question. I was under the impression GM was launching the Camaro with the Gen. V engine. That's what they told the press anyway. Regardless, I'm sure they have plenty of more cards to play with. It's likely they decided their Gen. V engine was too good to compete with the Chally and Stang, so they put it on hold. I don't think we've heard the end of it.

the Gen V is still under R&D, they have variations of it out now. but a Gen V motor in the camaro is def not out of the question for the future

I think some people around here who have been following the Gen V have predicted around MY2012. Seems a decent guess to me.

From what I've read rumor has it that a 5.0L V8 with around 375 or 400 HP will be included in the 2011 Mustang... Maybe GM will surprise us and release the Generation V in a 2011 model to compete with the mustang (Especially if Mustang still holds any significant weight advantage...)

I thought that Gen V engine will come out when new Corvette C7 comes? But since C7 is on hold i wouldn't be suprise that development of gen V. is also on hold. Financial situation in GM is not good.

If I had to guess they will bring it out the same way they did with the LS1's on the 4th gens. After a few productions years they will give the 5th gen a minor facelift IE changed headlights, tailights, some interior upgrades and the new Gen 5 small block

I think the LS3 and L99 already compare favorably to those numbers. I'd think they'd be shooting for numbers higher the what are being introduced a SOP. At least 450 I think.

This came out late last year...
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1533

Gen V small blocks should all be equipped with DI, VVT, AFM, and E85 capability among other things. There was rumor that a version of it would be OHC or DOHC as well.

The GMC Denali concept sported a concept 4.9L GenV engine. It was all name, I'm sure, as I doubt they'd put a one-of-a-kind engine in a non-driving concept vehicle.

According to the agreement between GM and the UAW (about a year ago) the GenV engines were slated to begin production in 2011, however, recently GM said they were delaying V8 engine development in order to save and reallocate money...so I'm not sure where it stands right now -- but I know its not dead.

After reading this from Edmunds.com, it appears they should have the capacity to keep up with V8 engines for the Camaro assuming gas has not shot back up by then suppressing demand.

That's what I'm speculating and it's just another reason for me to not be too dissapointed that I can't buy mine until 2012

If the Gen V comes out after 2010 for this generation Camaro I'm going to be pretty upset. This is a pretty big chunk of change and I for one don't want to be envious of the guy's who took their sweet time getting around to buying one. If anything the early birds should be rewarded.

I just don't want to feel like the guys who bought a 2001 Z06 with 385 hp only to watch the next year get 405 hp....that's bullshit right there.

People will be upset, but GM has to think about what will keep their car competitive at the time. If Ford releases a Mustang GT that ups the Camaro significantly in engine and/or fuel economy performance, It would be necesary to stay competitive in the muscle car market and release the Generation V engine, rahter than to wait 3 more years to release it in the next generation Camaro...
