I'll wait for the 2nd year production of this car to see if it truely is the king of the pony cars, hopefully GM will come to their senses and not price it over 50k. I'm not a Ford fanboy, but let's see what their answer is to the ZL1 before all the praise is heaped on it. As far as BMW, MB or Audi owners switching over, forget it. The only people that will buy the ZL1 are current Camaro owners or Chevy loyalists. The ZL1 will have a very limited market and if GM wants to get their research dollars out of it, they better not price it over 50k. That is the magic number to make this car a success! Don't forget, buyers will have to pony up the GG tax, plus state tax and then were talking 55k out the door.

How much is a GT500? How many do they sell?

48,500, I don't know the sale numbers. If GM wants their investment back that they put into the ZL1, there's no way in hell they can charge a 7k price premium over the competition. Price the car reasonably and it will sell, overprice it and it will rot on the lot. Example: Look at the Volt, even though its technically superior in design and appearance to the Leaf, it's overpriced and they can't sell them. None of us want to see the ZL1 turn into a sales dud like the Volt.

Ok the $48,500 gt500 does not have 3.73, does not have brembos, does not have the upgrade wheel/tire package and does not have the upgraded suspension. ALL OF WHICH COMES STANDARD on the ZL1 according to Scott. So now the base price of a comparable GT500 is over 53k. All of a sudden, the difference is not so big at 55k.

X plan price for a base is just over 45k, for the SVTPP it's just under 49k.

No gas guzzler tax on a 2011+ of course.

They made 5500 for 2011. Numbers for 2012 model will probably be similar.
Thats cool to know, wonder if they will honor xplan on the upgraded 2013?
I also wonder if it will avoid the GG at 600+ HP? The ZR1 weighs ~400 lbs less and it gets hit with the GG.

I guess IOMZL1 was right it is a perspective thing.

My perspective being from/in middle class is that Vettes are a status symbol as I couldn't see myself affording one. I guess the status thing is kind of like human nature. Once you climb one hill you move to a bigger hill. I thought Vettes would always be unobtainable. If I do get the ZL1 I guess that would move my perspective as well since I could get a vette for the ZL1 price.

I apologize if I made someone I forget that my bluntness often comes out offensive.

A very valid point, Lundegaard- but some of us don't want to be volunteered to pay for the damned Trucoat.

Mark Reuss, President of GM North America, stopped by our office to show us his new toy…and its impressive tire-smoking capabilities. Says Reuss: “We at Chevy wanted to show that we have the engineering talent and capability to build a high-performance car that’s accessible both on price and everyday drivability. The Camaro ZL1 is proof of that. Few manufacturers can build a car that can run 7:41 around the ’Ring for under $75,000 and still be driven every day with room for your family.”
That tells me the ZL1 might be MSRP'd at $70K :hs:

Hey man that's obviously just my opinion, I'm also a 19 year old that just bought a house so my opinion is kinda based on that.

Well I know the M3 doesn't have Brembos all around and it brakes way better than my SS. My sisters SVT GT500 has Front Brembos and rear normal brakes it doesn't need the Brembos.

People think they are on a "list" and the ZL1 is going to be in the Reasonable range.. Let's take a look:

1) Technology on the ZL1 is "insane"
2) Performance has just justified Price/MSRP (@ the "Ring)
3) style is incredible
4) people are drooling over this ride (me included)
5) honestly, I don't think GM cares if it impinges on the Corvette/Caddy sales, this is a car alot of folks really want.
My guess is a MSRP of over $55,000

And I don't think GM is worried about the Mustang, Mustang sales have been sliding and GM knows this... The Camaro is a much better seller the past 2 years compared to the Rustang..

50k is reasonable, anything else is overkill.
