Can the police detect these? Great job btw. I live in Canada and really want to do this but i heard that they can detect these. Is this true?

My neighbor who installs car stereos and alarms for a living says it is a absolute no no to tap power from any air bag wiring. Opted for hard wire from fuse box up the pillar and across under head liner. way easier and safer.

Yes, police can detect that you have a radar detector. Just make sure it is legal to use in your area.

+1 Gonna use a blade tap on the F17 fuse in the fuse box. Hopefully, sharing that fuse for the detector and the center console power doesn't blow it with both in use or I'll be researching another way to wire it in the fuse box.

I got this from DLS in another thread so I hope it works...
Yes, I put a piggyback fuse in the F17 spot which is the fuse that is for the power outlet in the center console.

I totally agree with you but this install doesnt tap into the airbag power supply, it is simply tapping into the light that indicates the airbag status. I havent checked the camaro yet, but i have never seen a car that has the airbags sharing power / circuit with anything, not even the indicator light.

Would like to confim that the Camaro is the same and that the power for the status light is isolated from the airbag circuitry itself. Anybody know for sure?

Spot on...

I would NEVER tap into an airbag power source...this is simply the power source for an indicator light. Keep in mind it's constant power too (with ignition on), so the ground for each indicator is the only thing that would tie back to the airbag system...not the 12V. And I tied back to the common ground...not the indicator grounds.

Hey guys like I said, you can tap into the Onstar power right in the rear view mirror. I bought a "stealth" plug on ebay for my 8500 and it just plugs right into the rear view mirror Onstar power. Took me about 15-20 minutes to install. Very easy!

Please let me know after a couple weeks of use if it is problem free. I have bought a wiring kit with a blade tap and a mute button to mount, but would rather save the trailing of wires if at all possible.

I've had it on since I got the car in June and havent had any problems at all. Works great. You just have to play around with the different wires to figure out which one is a switched one ! Doesnt take long at all!

Didn't you have to ground a wire too? And it would be nice to know which wire without tapping on all of them and having to electrical tape the punctures just to find the right one. Forgive me because I'm an analyst.
