difference in exhaust sound stock 4th gen SS vs 5th gen SS???
Basically I would love to hear opinions on the difference between stock exhaust on the 5.7 ls1 vs 6.2 ls3 as they put them in the Camaro.
I have heard the 4th gen, but not the 5th gen. thank you. |

I think that the 6.2 LS3 sounds a little more aggressive and "lumpy" than the LS1 in the 4th gen.
Now the LT1 in the 93-97 cars sounded the best to me IMHO, it took a Borla cat-back in my 01 to liven the LS1 up but the LT1 sounded great stock. On a side note, GM did a great job with the LFX exhaust note in my 2012 1LT, sounds great stock! I am still debating to leave it stock or go with a Corsa cat-back. |

5th Gen's have more resonator BS than 4th gens do, both gens w/ full exhausts sound just as good IMO.

My stock 4th gen had a much more aggresive tone than my stock 5th gen has (though my old SS had the dual center exit option). My new car is so quiet that it makes me angry. I'm going to need to do something about that. :-)

4th gens do not have a true dual exhaust and 5th gens do.

True, but the OP asked about sound quality not flow characteristics.

My 2006 GTO and 2010 Challenger sounded louder stock than both My Camaro's L99 & LS3 Stock.. I know the L99 had the center resonator that kills sound, but the stock cats seem to tone these cars down quite a bit..

I never said anyone flowed better, you'll get a different sound with a ypipe than with a true dual exhaust.

I've had all three (94 LT1, 98/98/98/00 LS1, 10 SS current), and like was already said, the LT1's sound the best stock. LS1's second, and the 5th gens last. But the 5th gens sound killer once you play with the exhaust.

I loved the exhaust of both my old 94 Z28, and my 04 GTO... My LS3 Camaro? Not so much, I've been playing with it almost since the day I got it, and still not happy.

94 is going to sound different it had the 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 firing order and the LS3 has 1 - 8 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3, I still think the old SB,BB sounds better then the LS motors.. Know nothing about the GTO..

True duals with a x pipe will always sound different than a y pipe single. My 4th gen with LT's and Hooker aero chamber muffler was for sure louder than my 5th gen with LT's and Magnaflow street but IMO my 5th gen sounds better. I think its because of the true duals and x pipe that give it a better sound. I wish they made a H pipe for our cars. I think H pipe sounds better than x pipe.

I'm surprised nobody has come up with a pro chamber for the 5th gens either. Now that's a different sound as well.
