Drag Radial question

Hi folks,

I have DR's mounted on 09 front Z06 wheels (black) that I used on my old CTS V.

Problem is they are 305/35/18 and not the stock height 305/45/18.

Will I be able to run these at the strip without having ABS issues etc with the stock fronts? I'm guessing I'm going to have issues but would like to confirm with you guys...

If there are issues I'm likely going to sell this combo and get the new ZL1 style reproductions in 18 when they come out and run 305/45/18.

My car is an automatic.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

When you run dramatically different sized tires front and back on the ZL1 it will give a stabilitrac warning and a power steering warning in the DIC after the car hits about 20 mph. After it shows the warning I think it says stabilitrac error, stabilitrac disabled. It does not matter what position you put the PTM in, it gives the warning everytime you restart the car and get a little speed on the tires. It does not cut engine power at all. Sometimes I drag race on different sized tires and since I don't get up to speed in the staging lanes I usually see all the warning on the run. It doesn't affect the time at all if you can ignore it.

I believe the stock height is 305/35/20 because I have 305/45/18 drag radials and they are almost identical in height.

When I checked with GM, their answer was no more than 3% difference.

That's probably the right answer if you don't want to see the warning on the dash. But my point is after the warning pops up it doesn't shut down anything except stabilitrac and if you are racing you probably don't need stabilitrac. OP should be able to run the tires fine. If really concerned find the exact tire height and get a set of fronts that are within and inch of the same size. It is only when I go more than 2" differences I see the warning. For me it is easier to change tire size than gear ratio. The engine and drivetrain still run fine if you mismatch the tires front to back.

My wife runs the 305/45R18 Mickey Thompson drag radials with stock fronts at the track on her ZL1 and has no ABS or stabilitrac warnings or issues

Yup I know the 305/45's are good to go. (Same height as stock)

My old CTS-V setup is 305/35/18 though...they are shorter...

I have a manual so I can't speak for sure about the auto but I'm guessing it will shift fine. They will bolt right on, if it was me I would mount them up and test drive it a little. I suspect after you get the initial warning message and clear it you will have no traction control but everything else will run fine. Worst case, get a matched set of fronts and it will not show any warnings at all.

Sorry thought it was a typo. I didn't know they made a 305/35R18

305/35-18s work fine. The stabilitrak warning does illuminate at first. After a short period of time this warning goes away. No worries...I have at least 50-75 runs on these tires with no issues. I turn all nannies off for runs.

Thanks Stephen - What exactly do you do for your runs with the traction control? (What button press combo)

Cheers
