2010 SS vs 2006 Mustang Super Charged

A friend of a friend has a 2006 Mustang GT that is Super Charged and wants to race me, at the track of coarse. I am probably going to take him up on the offer but dont want to commit if I dont have a chance.

I have a CAI and JBA mid pipes with high flow cats.

Is this a drivers race or I am I screwed?

Depends what his setup is.

Knowing most people that s/c and are smart, he will have all the supporting mods, so he will be 4xx rwhp, probably almost hitting 500ish.

If he can drive you are going to get murdered.

...and how good of a driver he is..

I know some people that just have $$ and no sense/ability and will do 13s/14s all day in a blown Camaro SS. (similar ratio times on other cars as well).

Being supercharged can mean a lot of things. I remember when I was beating supercharged old school 5.0s with a stock LS1. I've also seen a few run single digits. So really it depends on how extreme his build is? What kind of blower is it? Is he on stock internals? To many variables for a positive answer.

He is saying he has 450 HP but doesnt know if is is RWHP or not. As far as I know everything else is stock, except may be his exhaust.

Easy enough to figure out..

Ask him how he knows the numbers and where they came from.

But if you're certain everything else is stock and it's just the S/C -- then my money is on it being Crank Power, not Wheel Power. 450 tire on an 06 Mustang with just an S/C would be doubtful. Those, I believe were 300HP/320TQ at the Engine so 450 Engine with S/C sounds about right.

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...tem.php?gik=81

Vortech states ~420 Crank HP with their kit.

http://www.paxtonauto.com/product.php?id=103

Paxton states about ~470 Crank HP with theirs.

That is what I think as well, based on info I read on Mustang forums, that is why I thought it was a drivers race. If he drives anything like by other buddy I like my odds.

He is a bit lighter and but the HP is about even in my opinion, as I should be at around 445 at the crank with my mods.

I say just run it and see what happens... A lot depends on both your abilities to drive (given close power/weight)

You both have different advantages.

If he says 450 it is because he has supporting mods and a S/C... The number is probably 450rwhp to be honest. The s197 is pretty nice f/i car, but sees nowhere near the numbers an SS will see (s/c ss in 500-600rwhp range).

Anyway, he has got you beat because of the weight and probably has more horsepower than you. Go get a cam and he wish he had bought another car.

Here are two different track days.

First one I wasted my brakes, but I was committed on getting him - a $300,000 Ferrari 458 Italia

The other one was from the onboard camera of a Mustang GT. He starts looking in his mirror at me around 1:30 and by 2:25 I pass him on the front straight. He is a very smooth driver, I wasn't aware how quickly I get around the track with MINIMAL modifications.

If he's at 450 WHP in a 4.6 modular..I would hope to shout that he beefed up the internals of the motor. 4.6 3V's have always been touchy over about 460 WHP.

If he's at 450 WHP and is a good driver..look out. There is one here in the Rogue Valley that is at about 470 WHP and runs at the drag strip every once in a while. His times usually run between 11.3 and 11.6 @ 120 or so.

A Head/Cam combo with your mods will level out the playing field. You'll have a much better top end.

As a Mustang owner, I'll tell you most s/c I see on Mustangs are VERY small. Plenty of people buy the Ford Racing s/c that only adds 80 horse.

It's just another mod. Don't be afraid.

That very small supercharger is the same 2.3L TVS that is used on the ZR1 and larger then the 1.9L TVS used on the CTS-V and ZL1.

The 3v 4.6L and 2.3L TVS is no joke once you turn up the boost. The 2010 Roush Stage 3 is putting down 530whp @ 15psi bone stock and runs 11.3's with stickies, and is one wild ride.

Here is Late Model Restoration's Hammer test drive which is nuts compared to my car when it was stock.

What the hell.... I used to own an 06 Acura RL ! When did you put that in your sig ?!

http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...tl-sh-awd.html

Ironically Edmunds just got 14.0 @ 99 mph for the 6-speed manual TL SH-AWD(on all seasons, there was wheelspin in the acceleration notes).
