The Day The Earth Stood Still, turned it into an environmentalist movie...

Any remake? Hollywood needs to stop ruining good movies.

I kind of liked War of the Worlds...I'm puzzled as to why you thought it was an environmentalist movie though. I never got that impression.

As long as they don't remake Howard the Duck...of course, that may be one movie that was better as a remake even if they screw it up.

I have been enjoying the recent remakes. They are out of Ideas so if they remake a movie and do it well with few new twist or from a different perspective I can enjoy it. I liked the Robocop, Total Recall, Batman, Spiderman, trying to think of others???

It's because movie executives are a bunch of clueless drones who'll go for the easy, least risk adverse, money. They know if they make another Spiderman, Superman, Batman, etc., etc. enough people will go to see it and it will earn a profit, even if it is a smaller one.
There have been many, MANY, blockbuster movies that the movie executives hated and were reluctant to even release them. Examples: BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID. Executives didn't like it and bemoaned the "modern" musical score the movie had. Turned out the be the blockbuster highest-grossing film that year. AMERICAN GRAFFITI: Hated it in a pre-screening, didn't even want to release it. It has since become one of the most profitable movies ever made. STAR WARS: They absolutely HATED this movie and the dialogue "Nobody talks like that" they said. I think everyone knows how that particular film franchise worked out. They also thought that George Lucas was a complete idiot for taking a cut in movie profits so he could have exclusive merchandising rights (to date worth around $20 BILLION with a "B"!!!!!!!). So be prepared for and endless list of remakes and TV-to-movies. The movie executives are all to risk adverse to ever again take a chance on an unknown movie like AMERICAN GRAFFITI or STAR WARS again I fear. Of course if people would just STOP going to these REMAKES of REMAKES... Last edited by MLL67RSSS; 05-28-2015 at 10:41 AM. |

Karate Kid easily #1 but Point Break looks especially dumb as well.
