Ordering camaro credit check *ding*

It’s been 20 years since I’ve ordered a vehicle. Usually I just buy off the lot, but due to circumstances that are out of control I’ll probably be ordering one.

Would anyone mind sharing your experience with the ordering process? Must the dealership check your credit when ordering and putting a deposit down? If so, they’ll probably check it again when the car comes in and I’m not comfortable with constant credit checks as it reduces your score. Has anyone requested that the dealership not check when ordering?

Any Input is greatly appreciated.

No. They should not be checking your credit during the ordering process. Especially right now when you’re looking at 6+ months before the car arrives. My dealership didn’t even require a deposit because of the timeline but majority do require a $500-1000 deposit. Just don’t fill our ANY financing paperwork until the car arrives. If you fill that out they will run your credit.

I did everything over the phone and e-mail for my recent order. No credit check yet but a down payment with a CC is all that was needed. Order placed in the middle of July with a TPW of 9/12.

A credit check is not required when placing an order. As Green Machine said, don't fill out any financing paperwork until the car arrives and do the credit check then. If the dealership asks to do one when placing an order, tell them no, that you're going to wait until the car is delivered because there is no point in getting dinged twice.

I ordered a 2023 1SS 1LE on July 25th, real easy process . .No credit check until vehicle arrives. . Make sure the deposit is refundable and don't leave without the workbench order printed out with an order number. Closer to the time the vehicle is gonna arrive I'll be looking around for best pre-approval interest rates unless chevy has some kind of finance deal happening. . Best of luck to you

I got a hard inquiry when I ordered back in Nov '21. When the car finally arrived and I purchased April 16th, they didn't run my credit again

Agree with what was already posted. I ordered back in Jan '22; refundable deposit of $500, received a copy of the Workbench order, and checked tabs on it about every other week. Started working my finances when it got closer to being delivered.

Since you haven't bought in quite some time check out joinyaa.com (Your Auto Advocate) and the Ray and Zach show on Youtube. They provide TONS of info on buying in today's market and what to expect from the salesman to the F&I office to taking delivery.

Good luck!
