SS wheels test fit?
Has anyone test fit a set of SS wheels to see if the clear the ZL1 brakes?
I am looking for a set of wheels to mount winter tires on and I know there is a Pirelli set that works with the stock SS wheels. Thanks! |

I already bought a set but didn't test fit. SInce they are the same diameter, I assumed they would fit fine.

Thanks.. I assume they will too - just looking for confirmation before I pull the trigger.

Edit - if I knew the precise answer, I'd give it to you straight out. But all I can do at this point to help is mention something else to check for.
What you need to confirm is not just that the "barrel" of the wheel will fit over the outside diameter of the caliper but that the back sides of the spokes will everywhere clear the outward thickness of the caliper as well. Unfortunately, this isn't easy to do "by eye". This exact issue is a huge deal over on the Mustang side of the street, with many 18" aftermarket Mustang wheels not fitting cars with the 14" GT500 brakes even though the GT500's at the time wore 18" wheels. I know, I know, there's that "other car" again. But that doesn't eliminate the need to check this here. Unfortunately, dimensional "gotcha's" like this do occasionally happen. Absolutely agree norm that's why i asked. There are many factors to consider such as diameter, offset, back spacing, etc. Hopefully someone will do a test fit soon..

They will fit. I took the front off my 2010 ss and it will clear. I took it to Georgia with me, to the fbod gathering. Not going to be at the mercy of a not noing tow truck driver. I'm looking for a polished wheel, if anyone knows where one is for sale.

They will fit - in fact we had a few 2012 CTF ZL1s running around the Motor City last winter with SS wheels and Scorpion Snow tires -
I recommend that you order all-seasons or ice/snow tires early - they're not easy to find in the sizes that the ZL1 requires.

I am about to buy a set of SS wheels for my ZL1 and run all season tires for the colder months here in MD. Not clear about your statement about the CTF using SS wheels and Scorpion winter tires, in conjunction with your statement about "sizes that the ZL1 requires". Is it okay to use the SS wheels with the 245/45/20 F and 275/40/20 R tire size that is standard on the SS? Or do I need to mount different size tires on the SS wheels for the ZL1? Thanks, Gary |

Thanks. I really was wondering if the SS tires 245/45/20 and 275/40/20 were the ones they used. I know Scott is busy and probably won't see this right away, if at all. But thought I would ask anyway. Gary Last edited by SSeemego; 10-12-2012 at 03:30 PM. |

Does anyone have any pictures of a ZL1 with the stock SS wheels on them? I'm curious how they will look. I am not expert by any means but I think depending upon the offsets, the SS wheel could stick out or be recessed in the wheel well. Can anyone comment on that?

What I have for the SS
Front 245/45-20 on 20 x 8 x +35mm wheels Rear 275/40-20 on 20 x 9 x +40mm wheels For the ZL1 Front 285/35-20 on 20 x 10 x +?? wheels Rear 305/35-20 on 20 x 11 x +?? wheels If somebody can post accurate offsets of the ZL1 wheels, I can post up plots where the front SS wheel/tire package is overlaid on the ZL1 (and do the same for the rear). It accounts for the tire section width varying as wheel width differs from the "measuring width", <text deleted> <sample plot deleted, see later post> Norm Last edited by Norm Peterson; 10-13-2012 at 04:37 PM. |

Some of our 2012 CTF ZL1s had SS wheels and ice/snow tires on them last winter - simply because we could not get the ZL1 sized tires in time to put the cars in service....from the side, they pretty much look like an SS until you see the hood and front splitter.
