Locking gas cap

This is probabily not important to most of the users here, I can tell from the talk about mods, improvements, etc. However I want to keep my 2SS Cyber gray, (no stripes), w/Hennessey KN Cold Air Intake, Camero clean on the outside. I cannot imagine why Chevy (GM) decided to make a car that anyone can just walk up to it and touch the gas filler cap, and have it to open WITHOUT a gas cap lock. The only option that I can find to a locking fuel system is, a locking fuel door, (SILVER, or BLACK), at $189.00 for something that does not keep it clean. Chevy did produce a locking gas cap for my 2002 Avalanche, which allowed me to keep it clean. And they did it for $35.00. I have had several phone calls to a Mr. Swanson, Executive Suites GM, at 313-667-7153 who told me that none is planned. THAT IS UNEXCEPTABLE. Lets get on the horn to these people and let them know this is something that should be available, whether you want it or not.

I've been looking for one too. No luck yet. Stant doesn't even offer one. I don't want one of those locking doors. I think they ruin the lines of the car.

A small flat bladed screwdriver (or knife) can easily pop open a fuel door...so in addition to losing your gas, you will then have to get your fuel door repainted, etc.,...if they want your gas, they will take it...even if it means puncturing your fuel tank...just a part of life.

You should definitely try to lock the gas cap. You are right to be extremely concerned. Less than a week ago, a neighborhood in Dallas, tx was vandalized and many cars had sugar added to the gas tanks. The vandals keyed any cars with locking gas caps. here is a link to the article: It appears the people who did it were kids which sounds typical but still, it is just a reminder you can't assume your car is safe anymore.

+1 - brushed aluminum defenderworx fuel door - I bought for the style and security over the GM version which was bound to be a "trophy" to some deliquent. More of a deterrant to a lazy vandal - I'm sure a determined one would try to pry it open/off - just have to think where NOT to park it whenever possible...

Mea Culpa - that's what I get for not reading close enough.

From moderncamaro forum look at this thread / post #46http://www.moderncamaro.com/forum/sh...d.php?p=173721 - Dave from Newman Chevy posted - " I have a number to try. The only real difference from stock (other than locking), is that it doesn't have the plastic tether strap to hold it on the vehicle.

Try # 998973 from your local GM dealership. It's a thread on cap like on the Camaro. They retail for $15.00. If they work and I were to sell them, they'd run $12.75 plus freight, so you'd be be better off finding one locally. It fits a 2003 Hummer H2 (not newer than '03! '04+ had the 1/4 turn cap). "

He was going to post if it worked or not but didn't so far... his contact info is at that post....

Better?

Unsure if Dave is on here - perhaps a pm to Camaro Scotty would help - he's most responsive and a "righteous dude"..

I dont know about a locking gas cap, but a locking door is the next best thing I suppose.

But as was posted previously...a screwdriver will do the trick on a locking cap too...I know...we always seemed to get auction cars with no gas cap key at the dealership. A flat blade screw driver jammed in the keyhole took the cap off EVERY time-usually just a sharp hit from a fist would provide enough force to "override" the lock.

Locks just keep the honest people honest-unfortunately.

Did I read this right? One of the Silverado caps fits the 2010 Camaro?
