Because Discovery was the oldest.

Before the Challenger disaster, Challenger was the most used orbiter.

Before the Columbia disaster, Columbia was the most used orbiter.

yeah but after Columbia was destroyed it seemed like 2 of every 3 missions were Discovery. i would have thought they'd use Endeavor more since it was the newest.

Because honestly I think Discovery is NASA's favorite orbiter. Plus it was the most famous and talked about. So Discovery's launches were more publicized.

Yesterday, SCA 905 flew back to Dryden. This was it's final flight. It will now become a parts donor for the Sophia Program.


SCA 905's sister, SCA 911, retired last Feburary.
