Talking Just bought a CAI !! should I install it at home or take it to a garage??

Ok so my CAI from Cold Air Inductions just arrived and I am so excited !!

Im just wondering if I should just try and install it at home (I literally never installed any part on any car in my life , But im tempted to try now lol.) or should i take to get installed professionally?

Thanks guys!

It is very simple install, one of the easiest to do.
Mostly household tools will do it. If you have never done anything, you probably don't have a heat gun for the shrink wrap, use a hair dryer maybe.
But if you have to ask, maybe you should take it to a friends house or help from a neighborhood kid??

This might be the place for you to start your road to doing your own mods?

You can do it...the instructions are really good and you shouldn't have any trouble following them.

Like mentioned in the other reply, you can use a hair dryer on the heat shrink and won't need a heat gun.

Don't pay anyone to do that for you. If a newby to doing mods to your own car like me can do it, anyone can. Just do it yourself. Seriously.

There's nothing to heat up on the 6 cyl. CAI you just replace the larger hose with the supplied smaller breather hose. It's a piece of cake, go for it!

OP- Congrats on your new mod and thank you for choosing Cold Air Inductions Inc.! Dis-regard the comments about the heat shrink/ heat gun, your V6 does not need them. Installation is very straight forward and simple, make sure to read the directions and follow them and you should be ok. Having a friend or someone present who has done stuff like this before may be helpful, but not necessary. If you need anything or have any questions just give us a call, and remember not to try forcing anything, just follow the instructions and you should be good to go!

Do it yourself. If an ole muscle car from the 60s can do it (I'm 65 now) anyone can.
Just make sure you have all the right tools ( really not that many). Do a partial disconnect dry run first to get a feel of what your working with. Pay particlaur attention to tips 2 & 3 below. Good luck.

Here's the forum tips I used.
1) Couldn't snap out MAF harness so I removed the MAF with the harness attached
and inserted into new intake tube (after installing intake tube.)

2) Installed box with lid on, then after getting into postion I removed the top,
tightend down box, installed filter, attached intake tube, then installed lid (insert
fender side first making sure the lid screw tabs were in the full open postion as
that's the only way they will line upfor tighning in the box holes ..took a couple
of minutes of fiddling around. I used a small 3" screwdriver to tighten the
screws to give me a better feel to reduce slipping off and scratching the lid top.

3) Used a ABA hose clamp to secure the PCV tube to the intake tube hose rather than futzing around with the shrink wrap. The ABA clamps are lined with silicone on the inside so they won't cut when being tighened, but any clamp will do.

I did a dry run first of just detaching things a few days before so I new what to
expect ... glad I did because I found out I couldn't snap out the MAF harness
and also discovered I had to remove the neg battery extention cable from the box
fender mount. Install took about hour

It is very very easy and I am a complete n00b with working on my vehicle. I highly recommend you do it yourself not only for knowledge but also the satisfaction knowing you did it yourself. It made me more ambitious about working on my own vehicle and now I can't get enough.

Good luck and if you ever have any doubts you know there's many here that will help ya!

Do it yourself. you will feel great. and don't worry lots of real good people in here that can help with any questions/problems you may have.

don't forget to disconnect the - battery terminal. I've read alot of people who panicked when it ran rough right after install after not doing this...
