New V6, starting on suspension

Just picked up my V6 LFX. I came from a Mini Cooper that was setup for autocross, and absolutely handled like it was on rails. This car isnt terrible, but can obviously be better.

I have about a $500 budget to get started.

Where should I start? Lowering springs and...?

I was also thinking about getting the strut tower, because, it looks good. Haha.

1LE Strut Tower Brace
1" Eibach lowering springs
1LE sway bars front and rear.

The 1LE suspension kit is a great place to start...can be had for around $700 used.

With your budget and what you are looking to do I would start with sway bars and a front suspension bushing kit. When you come up with some more funds I would get into the rear suspension and dampening.

Hey Derek,

All of the above are good suggestions. If you're set on lowering the car first, I'd start with some BMR springs, Prothane sub-frame bushings, front control arm inserts and you'll have enough left over also address the rear upper control arm bushings. As your budget allows more down the road, obviously look into sway bars.

Kind regards,

-Adrian

Bushing inserts were an amazing upgrade for me (mainly rear cradle). Most consider that a fundamental starting point.

Sway Bars make a HUGE difference. But all suggestions are good. Brakes just keep watching E bay and they pop up at a fair price.

Well, with all that being said...I found a 1LE suspension package for $800 shipped in the marketplace...

Should i do that or just piece together a BMR setup?

I'm going with 1LE on mine. Have the kit, just need time to install it. One interesting thing if you race the car is that being all optional parts, it can give you an advantage as sometimes non-original parts etc can toss you into a class where you can't compete.

I just put on BMR sway bars and it made a big difference. Next thing in suspension is bushing. I don't have the money to buy big kits like the 1LE so I have to do piece buy piece. But then my car is not a race car nether.

Do the 1LE and then do Bushing upgrade.
