Car Dies Randomly

Hi Guys and Gals,

Well it seems to happen about once a month out of the blue for no reason. The first couple of times it died in my driveway and now today it has died when I was going down the road but I still had power to the radio and the blue rings around the gauge clusters I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem before or if there is a bulletin for this particular problem. I tried searching the forums and couldn't come up with anything... Im driving an LS A6 with 2200 miles on it.

This has never happened to me, and I don't recall anyone on here with that issue. I would get to the dealer asap.

^ What he said. Might just be an electrical issue, but that takes forever to diagnose and correct.

If everything else is ok, then you are losing ignition power to the engine computer for a split second. Probably a loose pin or bad connection or a harness tied too tight and getting pulled partially apart.

Ya the second time it happend while it was sitting in the driveway I took it to the dealer and they checked all the connections and they couldn't find anything or "replicate" the problem and it's getting kind of flustrating mabey I need to find another dealer.

I am a heavy truck tech. Believe me, I know how frustrating some of these problems can get. As a tech some of the hardest problems to find are the ones that are very intermittent! When we have a customer show up that has had a problem, but everything is ok now we will try as best as possible to find something but it can literally be looking for needle in a haystack. You also have to realize that warranty won't pay them to look all day either, they probably won't get paid at all for looking at it because they didn't do anything. The Camaro is still a new car to them, it will take time before they know all the little tricks about them. I know this sucks, but work with them, be patient. From your description the problem is happening very infrequently, it will be hard to find. You are looking at anything involved in the ignition to the engine, key switch, ECM, a bunch of relays, probably 20 feet of wiring and 10 different connections. To be honest, it would be better for it to quit and never work again, they would find the problem for sure that way! Hang in there!!!

I'm going to suggest being agressive with this problem and working with one dealer only. If they don't find it on another attempt, I'd get customer service involved. Not trying to scare you, but this problem is a safety issue and could easily cause an accident.

I had a GM car do this a long time ago and they never found the problem. It died in the middle of an intersection, and I finally traded it in.

Just a thought - check the battery cable sticky. It's for V8s but it might give you some ideas

Answers my thoughts on it. I got nothing man. I figured it would be the battery cable issue, but i was under the idea that that was solved a long time ago.

Had something like that happen to me the first week I had my car. When they fixed the battery cable issue at the factory they pulled to hard on the wireing harness and seperated a connection by the starter but it was still covered by the shrink sleeve. When the dealer figured out which one it was he pushed them back together until he heard a click since he could not see them through the shrink sleeve and i have not had an issue since. Not sure if your issue is them same but something to checking out
