Ambient Lighting QUESTION

Looking at ordering a 2SS black-on-black. A question about ambient lighting for the 2SS. So ambient lighting comes on when you switch the headlights/dashlights on? Does the ambient lighting go all the way across the top edge of the dash as indicated in some GM ads for the car? I've seen video of ambient lighting on the door inserts/door panels at night, but I've not seen actual video of ambient lighting going all the way along the upper edge of the dash. Also, can you select different colors for the ambient lighting? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

oh man you'll probably go through the gauntlet on this one but
as a newbie myself Ill give you a break...

no, the ambient lighting does NOT come across the dash like the prototypes showed. The (ABL) is only on the door panels as you saw in the video.

If you get the IOM interior package the ABL will be red/orange instead of the standard blue.

welcome to the club.

spend a little time searching around...lots to see.

Thanks for all the responses. Ambient lighting on the door panels is cool. Wonder why they gave up on the same lighting along upper edge of the dash - really sucks - they would have had something really special at night with that. Any chance the aftermarket will provide a solution to continue the lighting along the dash as nature (or at least as GM) intended?

There is some speculation that in a later model year they may include this. I would assume that if this does happen you could get this done to a MY2010 as well.

After seeing some videos of the current setup (doors only) it looks pretty good .. it will be interesting to see if the dash ambient lighting ever comes about and how that looks as well ..

From what I understand GM had some major issue with the dash lighting. The detail specifics of which I am not familiar.

However, I seem to recall hearing that the major problem related to durability issues during some of the extreme weather testing done.

Either way, it won't be on the 2010's. I for one hope for a retro isntall kit to add to mine eventually. I always thought it was one of those "Oh Wow !" things that would be nice to have.

Not a critical issue to me, but, I really liked the original concept of this with it reaching across the dash.

Just came back from a local dealer that had a 2LT sitting outside, unlocked. I went to check out the auto-dimming mirror for visibility's sake (I, personally, didn't have a problem with it, but my torso's not as tall as it could be) and saw the Ambient Lighting in person. It's freaking awesome! Not too over the top, not too subtle (in my opinion, of course). Just right for me. Looking forward to it on my 2SS.

From what I understand, the lighting across the top of the dash became sorta distracting or glaring at night or something...therefore it was restricted to the door panels.
