Gas Cap Strap Hook

I am amazed that I couldn't find his discussed anywhere here. The little plastic hook that is supposed to hold the gas cap away from the body doesn't. Anyone have a fix for this? Did they fix it in the 2011 model?

Usually, it holds the cap for a second, then it pops off and bangs against the paint. The whole purpose of the hook is to prevent this.

There were dozens of threads on this last year, maybe they've all gone away?

I just cut the teather off, end of problem. Don't know if it changed for the 2011 MY.

Gas cap strap works fine. Just rotate the gas cap (after you have it off) until it lays gently on the outside of the fuel door.

Mine works fine everytime.

yep, still have the same issue, not as much though in the warm weather, but in the winter, the cap hook stiffens and comes off.

Since NJ has gas attendants and you cant pump your own gas I decided to buy the GascapCaddy since the morons were letting it swing against the paint. Well somehow they broke the GasCapCaddy...In the end I decide to remove the strap from the gas cap so they are forced to place the cap on the pump now.

This cap must weigh all of 2-3 ounces and is plastic. I just lay it against the 1/4 panel. What do you expect to happen ? This is definately a non issue in my opinion.

You must not be OCD like some of us. My cap falls right on the Tom Henry stripe. I can't stand it! I'm going to wash my hands now after touching the keyboard...

you should just take the strap off. it pops right off, very easy to do. the same thing would happen to me when i got gas...they try to hang it on the hook and then BANG right on the paint! if you look close up in that area with a light you will little nicks of where the cap hit the paint. i said enough with this crap and took the strap off and stuck it in my glove box!

I have been thinking of this for the past 3 months since I got the car, then one day it clicked, I think you have to hook the cord on, not the cap!
