Exclamation 160 Degree Thermostat and Car Issues....

I installed a 160 degree thermostat yesterday night. It is working very well with my tune. Tonight I was driving home and my DIC displayed a message that said " AC turned off due to high engine temps". I was like holy SH&^! Anyway I shut the car off and turned it back on seeing if this would correct it. No dice. I pull over and feel around the engine bay, NOT HOT! I start to drive home again and notice the engine coolant temp was at --- degrees, and the gauge was all the way cold. I finally made it home, shut the car off and unplugged the ecu. Plugged her back in, started her up and everything was back to normal. Any ideas????

I thought I saw another thread about this. Search. I think it said you had to tune the ecu for that mod.

Nope, no tune needed, at least no error. Maybe not be ideal, but mine has been in a week with no tune, no issues, and a weekend driving in triple digits in the desert.

I did something one day and did not get one of the new MSD wires on all the way, and drove to work and back that way and on the final 2 mi the car started to run bad and the
DIC displayed a message that said to service the car and it stop running and then i restarted the car drove home and fixed the wire and have not had that problem any more.

Any ideas what could have happened? Oh I also gutted the factory cats. Don't think that is the issue though

Is the temp sensor close to where you were working? maybe you got the wire loose to it.

YOu have to edit the P0128 code under the Engine Diagnostic>DTC tab. Turn the code to #3 with no report.

If the ECM does not see at least 167* over a certain duration it triggers that code and turns the coolant gauge offon the cluster.

Ditto! Do us a favor and check connection. Then confirm your actually reading something other than --- engine temp. as well.

Also is there any harm to the motor from running your engine cooler? That kinda sounds like a dumb question
