Planning on buying new tires and ZL1 rims. Need Advice. - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Hi, I am planning on switching out my SS with some aftermarket ZL1 Wheels and tires and I would like some advice on these eBay ones I found.

The first are the tires. I found some 275/40/20 and 315/35/20 in 1 auction for 625$. Link Here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/350806235128...84.m1423.l2649
How are these prices and how well are these Accelera Iota tires? It says new and I don't know the ??/32nd on them so I don't know how long they will last. And if any, I would like some recommendations to some everyday tires for cheap prices, I do not need performance tires.

He said that they were made of "cast aluminum" whats the difference of that and the stock "aluminum alloy"? As for the weight, he said the 20x10's were 39lbs each and 20x11's were 41lbs each. Are these good weights compared to the stock ZL1 rims?

Nothing personal, but you are going to buy cheap crap tires to put on a 400 horsepower sports car? Don't cheap out on one of the most important parts of the car...the parts that keep you connected to the road.

If you don't want to shell out money for tires, why buy aftermarket rims that cost a grand? ...or even a Camaro in the first place? Doesn't make any sense.

I would avoid eBay unless you know exactly what you are ordering. I would also avoid generic brands, such as those tires.

True.. Tires are very important. If you're not going to be running the car on the track, replica wheels should be okay. Not the same case for tires though in my opinion..

I haven't a single clue about tires. I just want good regular tires though instead of performance tires since I don't ever race.

Stick with a brand name, and choose an "All Season" tire instead of a "Summer Only" or "Performance" tire.

Don't overlook the fact that quite a few tire mfrs offer all-season tires in various performance ratings.

My point being that even if you don't ever get close to using all of their performance, they'll still make the car feel more nimble than non-performance or touring rubber in the same sizes. This goes to 'driving satisfaction'.

In my experience, Bridgestone is one brand of tires that generally tend to feel more responsive than many other brands within any given tire category. There are others.

Don't cheap out on the tires. Trust me get either Michelin pilot super sports or the Goodyear eagle f1 supercars. As for the wheels those are factory reproduction wheels. You can find them on the sponsors for sale wheels/tires subsection of this forum for cheaper I believe

I believe the OEM wheels are forged, which will be stronger than cast. I would not get cast wheels if you're going to track the car, not even sure I'd want them on an SS given the torque.

You know the stock SS 20x8/20x9 wheels are cast right?

I have never understand buying a $40,000 dollar car and putting the cheapest tires you can find on it. Tires put the performance to the ground. In terms of handling and breaking it's one of the most important mods to do to your car. If you care about performance go with a better tire option. I know all tires are black and round but the performance differences are huge.
