And I also know that I'm not super-repsonsible like a man with a family and all, I get that. Oh by the way, I kinda ordered the Camaro with a sunroof. Do you think thats a bad idea if I want to get stripes later?

I'm 18, and I'm getting a Camaro. I'm getting the V6 though. I'm paying for it myself.
My Grandparents saved up a good $13,000 for me for college since I was a kid, and since I got a scholarship, I didn't need the money. I made a HUGE mistake by rushing into getting a car and used $11,000 of the money they gave my on a Hyundai Elantra. :( In June, my Dad is buying my car from me and I will use the money from that, plus the money I get from my new job (which I should be starting soon) as my down payment. I'm 18 though, and I've practiced driving with my Dad in rural Upstate, NY since I was 14. So I'm pretty experienced for a kid my age. Plus, I'm not into racing, and I don't feel the need to compete with people on the road. If you're a new driver at 16, you don't need a brand new Camaro, let alone the V8. My first car was a 1998 Plymouth Neon. Get an older, used car first and get the Camaro when you're 18 and technically an adult and out of high school, and have at least been driving for 2 years. |

good intentions are great.....
with that said i used to try to race people in my 61 karmann ghia with a 1500cc, yes i got smoked but i still tried. the first time your on a date and some guy rolls up next to you and makes a comment on your driving ability.... good intentions go out the window... and your going to slam on the gas and take off. (that my friend is racing) how do i know this? it's a thing science likes to call testosterone. |

You should take a peak at my 'story' about being 16 and wanting a Camaro....
http://camaro5.com/forums/showpost.p...98&postcount=1 Some kids are responsible, most kids are not. Generalizations suck...but statistics are real. There's a reason that insurance rates are higher for younger drivers...experience, both behind the wheel and in life, makes you a better driver. Additionally, adults tend to have 'more to lose'...and take fewer risks. I'm not saying that you as an individual should not have a sports car...or any sixteen year for that matter...but I do think that 2 years behind the wheel getting some real experience will make you respect and appreciate it all that much more. As for taking a new car to college...well...colleges tend to be door ding heaven. Additionally, it's pretty funny how much less important cars become once your on campus...both functionally AND socially. Whatever you do...always remember how much you have to lose before you plant that pedal into the floor...and how much you could be taking away from others should you cause an accident due to negligence. And temper that throttle with wisdom...not confidence. PS... my first car was an '86 Escort GT with a whopping 108 hp. The summer before college, I slid it sideways into a curb trashing the suspension and somehow managing to crack the block. The car was totaled and it was 4 years before I had another car(motorcycles filled the gap). So...I speak from experience. |
