Hood open or closed on the Dyno?

I was wondering if a car is dyno'd with the hood open, then dyno'd with the hood closed, is there a benefit either way?

tuning noob is all ears and thanks as always

Well it's certainly an interesting question, but I'll have to go with hood open on this one.

I do all my calibrating with the hood closed and a good fan setup. You don't drive around with the hood up...

With the hood open, the heat from the engine moves away from the CAI. With the hood closed and a good fan blowing on the front, you get a more realistic number. Shops tend to use the hood open method to show bigger numbers, but don't drive with the hood up, please

Look at the video of Jannetty testing the cai's. Closed if you want real numbers, open if you want the max numbers. There will be a difference between the two results.

Most shops fans can't get anywhere near the air flow though the front of a car, as driving it down the street.

Up or down, do it the same way each time. In a perfect world everyone would have huge fans, the hoods would be down, and every car would produce the exact same results for the same mods.

I agree. A fan infront of the car DOES NOT mimic driving down the street at 100mph(4th gear dyno pull). We leave them open for a piece of mind on cooling the car down.
