A friend and I were talking about the automotive industry in general today and the question came up, what happens to those new cars on the dealer lots that
don't get sold?

and when neither of those happen, they get rebates & discounts out the wazoo thrown on them until they do sell. a guy on here ended up getting a new GTO for around $20k that way a few years ago

incentives keep growing and someone buys them....MOST of the time, when incentives are REAL good, other dealers sell them and trade something in return, or just buy it outright and pick it up.

Makes sense, but in the worst case what would happen to a car that just doesn't sell? Has that ever happened to a new vehicle before that anyone knows of?

I'd have thought that desperate ones would be sold at HUGE discounts to fleets, government and the like. Or possibly used as parts cars?

Eventually the price will come down enough and it will sell. Hell, I'd even buy a new Aztek for $1.

id pay that much.... just to take it out back and shoot it behind the barn.

I was talking to one dealership that could not get rid of some Ford E-Series vans and they ended up selling them at the wholesale auction in Manheim.

I found a 2004 GTO brand new with 13 miles on it in 2007 at a small town Pontiac Chevy dealer. He also had a brand new SSR with 27 miles on it. Both heavily discounted. I managed to get people to talk to him and eventually he sold them both. Brand new, never titled on MSO and three years old! Everything eventually sells. Like they say: There is an A$$ for every toilet seat.

I was doing some net searching for Barn cars and I came across some pictures of cars on land behind an abandoned dealer. From what the story said was that when the dealer couldnt sell the car he would just park it in this lot. well these cars are from the 50s and 60s still with window stickers on them. Big rust buckets though but would love to have one.

You know, I would laugh so hard if the designer of the Aztek was like one of the designers of the Camaro or something. That'd mean he had part in designing the hottest car, and the ugliest car I've ever seen.

I guess the shock of seeing an Aztec in real life was too traumatic for me, I had forgotten they even existed until you all reminded me of them here.

Kind of make you wonder just WiTF the designer's were thinking on that one doesn't it?

Maybe that is what happens to the "Car's that are forgotten", they are parted out to create Aztecs etc.
