Personally, I believe GM will pull through.
Seeing the cars "in the pipeline", ie; Camaro, Volt, Cruze, etc., I think once the economy starts to rebound, we'll see GM's stock rise also. |

People are panicking, but I think GM's position is strong, even Ford I think will be ok. Look at the rest of the market, you can see that nobody is alone in this thing. I think domestics will survive but I think a change in labor laws is necessary for them to thrive again.

EDIT: Found a graph of GM stock over the last few years....GM was over$39/share 1 year ago. http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor...l=GM&CP=0&PT=8 What is that? 90% decline in 1 year? |

There is another reseaon why the camaro should have an affordabl;e price tag, not to us fan guys becuase we are wiling to pay more, but to the common buyers. I hope the camaro's sales help GM, i know Gm is strong but it won't help them if the camaro fails, which i doubt will, but you never know. Camaro can't fail this time

Rolling along...
|
I was just looking at this too. Right after I did a little "managing" of my 401k...
I think GM will be fine long term but I'm concerned about how this will affect the roll-out of vehicles like the Camaro and the Volt. The initial ramp up and roll-out of the Camaro will be fine but I think GM is going to run into difficulty if this economic slide continues too long into 2009. This economy is going to hit dealerships first, as people will hang onto what they currently drive just a bit longer. Without the new sales, GM is going to have to slow production which will drive profits/revenue down and impact a larger supplier network. This issue isn't just contained to the US and is impacting world-wide sales. For GM's (and Ford's) sake, I hope they survive this intact and are able to keep going long term. |

Yeah, they'll be fine in the long run. But it certainly is not a good time to be a low ranking GM employee.

"As General Motors goes, so goes the economy."
They'll pull through.

I gotta tell ya this is all pretty concerning. The entire market dropped another 679 pts today (DJIA) to close at ~8600. At this time last year the DOW was over 14,000 just as a comparison.
How far will the market drop before it's considered a crash, or have we already passed that point? |
