Hood Rust Spots
As I was finishing up washing my 13 SS and drying off the car I noticed small rust spots over the enitre hood. At first I thought it was dirt particles but after much scrubbing and buffing with polishes and detail sprays I found them to be rust. After looking over the entire hood there are small spots like this over the entire hood. I normally wash my car by hand at least once per week so needless to say I'm a little shocked that a car that is only 13 months old is having corrosion issues already. I live in southern California and it rarely rains, no snow, and I don't live on the beach. I will be bringing it to the dealer tomorrow to have them look at it. Hopefully I don't get the run around. Anyone else have this issue?

Just go get Maquires claybar and do it yourself.

Yes, I bet its on top of the paint possibly grinder dust or some kind of construction near where the car was parked. Little particles of metal stick to paint then rust.

You must be seeing something else. Our hoods are made from aluminum....they can't rust.

I had this happen to a previous car. Turns out it was metal dust from the nearby railroad tracks. Parking in direct sunlight bakes it into the clear coat. Dealership said it was my fault and not covered. Which is actually true.

Yea my first 'maro I clay barred it before I did anything to it and I was amazed! Rail filings and all on top of the paint. Get yourself a sandwich bag or if you're a smoker, use the cellophane and put your finders in it and run it over the surface. You'll feel what your eyes can't see.
Get a clay bar on it and remove the impurities and then start your polishing sealant and wax.

This is actually quite common on our cars. It's more noticeable on white Camaro's. Mine had the same thing and my 2010 did as well, I noticed it on both of them brand new not even off the lot yet. Remember these cars are shipped by railroad and these cars get covered in rail dust which causes the small rust spots. I removed my stripes because I couldn't get rid of all the small rust spots. After I removed the stripes, I clayed my car and the rust spots have been gone since. That was over 2 years ago.

My wife's white Denali and my '92 GMC that was white did the same thing, but was on both sides of the vehicle. I was told the metal from the brake pads and rotors comes off when the brakes are applied and imbed in the paint/clear, then rust. I use 3M micro finishing glaze to remove it.
