picked up my car and... ewww! I hate engine dressing!

So I picked up my car from the dealer yesterday and they washed and detailed it... including the engine. It looks like they used half a bottle of greasy engine dressing. I know the dealer meant well... but I absolutely hate this stuff. Is this standard practice? Anybody else get this goop in their engine compartment. When I got the car home from the dealer the whole car and garage smelled like burning plastic and oil.

There is no need to "dress" a new engine in that crap. Mine was delivered as it exited the factory, clean and dry. I have never heard of this being done to a new car, a used car yes, but not new. Take it back and have the clean it all off.

I totally agree... just I don't think I would trust them to do that. They would probably just take de-greaser and a pressure washer to it, they try and start it for the next 20 minutes. I guess I'm spending my weekend cleaning this crap up instead of breaking it in.

Is that the greasy undercoating, anti-rusting thing? It is common to spray chassis with it and they may have just sprayed all over including the engine.

I always thought the dealers just detailed the inside and outside of the car.

I've had that happen on several new cars...depends on the dealer. It's really cheesy, but it makes it look good to the average joe.

They or you can easlily get it back to factory. Spray it with GM engine shampoo and all that crap will be gone. 1 can will do it.

I've never seen that done with a new car. It's usually a used car sales dress up. I personally hate that stuff for two reasons: 1st, it doesn't look right all glossy. 2nd, it is a dust and dirt magnet as stated above.

I'd clean it off ASAP before it gets covered with dirt.

Fcking morons. When you get your new vehicle purchase survey, burn em! Give them a Completely Dissatisfied on every question for fcking up a new vehicle like that.

I learned a long time ago on specialty cars, I don't let them touch a damn thing. My instructions are - the minute the truck pulls in, call me. Park it, don't touch it. Don't put your advertising stickers on it, don't wash it, don't fcking touch it. Park it far away from everything else, and I'll be right there.

Then I detail every new car I buy myself to perfection. If you want something done right, do it yourself. If you want it completely fcked up, let a dealer do it.
