LS3 Block stout enough for 427 build?
Just thinking a little ahead into the future and may start collecting parts to build a 427 in motor. It will use the procharger I already have, plus I'll probably get some CNCed heads.
Is the LS3 block stout enough for a 427 build up. Probably looking to make 650-700RWHP on pump gas for a street car. Do sleeves need to be installed or are stock liners good enough? Thanks.... |

We do the LS3 block to 418ci for forced induction.427ci should have the block resleeved.

FWIW, Texas Speed recommends the 418 over the 427 if you're planning more than 10 psi boost or more than a 150 shot of nitrous. The 418 is a shorter stroke which allows the use of a more substantial piston for higher boost applications...

We stock the 418 boost setups. Honestly the 427 using a LS3 block is a bad idea for boost. Give us a call & we can discuss options! We have 427s for boost, but it wont use the 6.2l ls3 block. I've personally made over 1000rwhp with a 4" stroke setup like the 418! We can help you build a nice short-block that will make the power your looking to make.
Typically we keep around 40 short-blocks in stock at any one time. If we don't have exactly what your looking for we can build it in under 3 weeks!! |

The 4.100" strokes are a not a good geometry for the short sleeved blocks. Resleeving corrects this but that is alot of expense for marginal if any improvement. The 4" stroker kits are more than enough.
I have personal experience with the 4.100" strokes and I am not a fan at all. I personally had a LS7 bored at 4.135" with the a Callies 4.100" and it was not as well of a performer had it been built with the 4" stroke. My block was not resleeved and it tended to consume oil. I had a friend with a 6.2L block with the 4.100" stroke the LS3 427 ci. It was also not resleeved and it consumed even more oil than mine. I caution eveyone that asks about the 4.100" strokes. My personal exerience is that the LS series engines do not respond very well to over stroking either. A square build is as far as I would recommend any LS engine be. The 4.125" bore and 4" stroke has proven to be very difficult to improve upon. Many wild combinations of engine builds out there and none clearly stand superior to the LS7 stroke and bore no matter the block selected.
