stock '12 camaro ss vs '12 stang 5.0 top speed

hey guys maybe someone can clear up something for me.
the 2012 5.0 @ 412 hp top speed is around 155mph &
the 2012 camaro @427 top speed is the same b'cuz they are limited, correct so far? removing the limiter from a camaro supposedly allows it to go 180mph.
would that be similar for the 5.0?
i was just curious.
it's all probably moot since i'm snagging a 2013 ZL1 next year - but, the engine technologies vary so much - i was just curious as to how that played out for top end speed. thanks for any comments

I think the SS top speed is 171.5, not positive on that. But yes it's limited to 155.

Also, this is the wrong spot on the forum, but you should definitely make the swap to a ZL1, it'll be a nice upgrade!

There are a lot of other factors other than hp that contribute to top speed, aerodynamics and gearing being the biggest.

to be quite honest.....that is unless you plan on competeing in some LONG distance high speed racing.......its not a matter of top speed (sijnce they are both limited), rather its a matter how QUICK (acceleration) you can get there.

Some people just can't drive worth a crap, so consider that.

Yea I'm sorry he would have to forget where the gas pedal is to lose with those mods to a nearly stock 5.0 in a half mile race bc even if he screwed up the launch he would have caught him very fast

Also look at the Texas Mile results:

http://www.texasmile.net/results.php

You can download the spreadsheet and sort it by car make, model, mods, etc.

Bingo. I don't know how much time you spend at your top speed, but I doubt you could find enough open space for it to really be an issue.

I couldn't care any less about top speed. You don't need to be going that fast on public roads, and it's more of a metric of gearing and aerodynamics than it is anything else.
