Custom Phone Mount Bracket
As Requested, I have added a DIY tutorial for making this phone mounting bracket.
Click here for the DIY Tutorial Original Post: I just started building a custom bracket for my phone dock. Here is what I have so far: I just need to shoot it with some black paint and find an 11/16" ball to put on it. If anyone knows where to get one, please show me. I have checked Ram-mount, but cannot find an 11/16" ball. The bracket isn't super pretty, but it's solid and doesn't move at all. The phone mount will keep it out of site, and best of all, it doesn't modify the car one iota. My initial idea: Fitting the bracket: The final fit of the bracket: How it will look in the car: My phone dock has a ball joint on the back, and a power port. I just need to find an 11/16" ball to add to my bracket. I ordered one of these to power my dock full time. The bracket Last edited by jeepguy_1980; 12-26-2013 at 05:44 PM. |

That's why I didn't want it. That may work for your needs. I wanted something that didn't block my vent, especially since my phone will be in landscape mode. Plus, I wasn't sure of how well it would stay in place.

Very nice work! I have the ProClip for my iPhone, but I love the mounting location of yours. Will it work vertically as well as landscape?

Is that bracket steel, or aluminum? Looks like it might be steel? McMaster-Carr has a selection of balls in a variety of sizes and materials. You could weld the ball right to the bracket, or perhaps drill and tap it and secure it with a bolt?
Link to the steel ball page. http://www.mcmaster.com/#chrome-steel-balls/=ftls1e If you want some other material (plastic, or aluminum) just search their page for plastic balls, etc. Cool idea! I think I may make one similar to the Pro Clip console mount for my car, I'm tired of my phone bouncing around in the cup holder. |

This one and This one I just finished painting it with plasticoat. Yeah, it's on a ball, so you would just twist the dock in the direction you want it. |
