i take my car to dealer for oil changes. even my old firebird. i just trust them , and usually i get coupons for discounts anyway.
my camaro has 1750 miles so it hasnt been changed yet, but, while under warranty, i feel its better to have dealer do it, and it on their computer records if anything would ever happen. just my opinion. OP good luck.

You hit the nail right in the head

I see these "mechanics" in the saloon…..I don't want them around my car.

Changing oil is "owning a car 101". I'm sure I've changed a couple hundred as most of you probably have too. Thanks for the positive help…I sure miss the round quarts with the spout my dad used to jam in there.

Seriously? You probably spend more time driving to get your oil changed and waiting around for the grease monkeys to actually change it than it takes to do 2 of your own changes. Then you better hope they filled the correct amount of oil, properly tightened the drain plug and filter. With life being too short, consider gaining back some of it by performing your own changes.

Also most of the oil changes are not done by professionals. Guys don't spend the time and money to become ASE certified to be oil changers. The pros do the more difficult work...

If you haven't run the engine after filling it, I'd pull the valve cover. If the foil isn't in the head's return galley its more than likely in the oil pan and eventually will wind up in the sump pick up screen.
I for one will be changing my oil since I use to be a Certified Mechanic. All routine maintenance will be performed by my hands. Besides, I want to learn more about this beautifully engineered car.

I would try to fish it out first and if that doesn't work remove the valve cover. But DON'T drive it.

Hope it goes well. Post again when you get it fixed.

I've always changed the oil and service my antique cars- That's my hobby.
My new cars I leave to my dealer. The mess, getting rid of the old oil, etc.
no thanks.

99 and of 100 of the 16 year olds that change your oil at the dealership would have left that foil in there and pretended nothing ever happened. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

Learning and protecting your $40,000 investment by starting off with your own simple oil changes sounds like a smarter way to go about things than handing it off to a mechanic that has zero connection with your car.

No better feeling that taking care of something that has to be done and knowing it was done right.
