I have been readiing lately about this tranny tune. What are the advantages of having a tranny tune and disadvantages of it?

Better Overall Performance, firmer shifts.

Ted.

Be careful not everyone know what they are doing and I have tried a few, including some of the vendors from here.Currently just running with AFM off and nothing else. The last tune caused my tranny to slip on the 2-3-4 up shift at part throttle.

Ted Or Phil from Tampa Tuning have it down....so does ECS and a few others I would trust with my own.

No downside, the firmer shifts extend trans life as you are eliminating most of the "comfort slip" that make todays trannies so smooth. Every time it slips it takes a little life out of the clutch paks and steels.

Ted did my tune.... car is much much, did I say much better. Disavantages are if you pick the wrong tunner they could mess something up.....

I would only use well know tunners from here. Ted, tampa, I know of from here are great. I am running Ted's tune. From first hand experiance I will tell you the car shifts faster, firmer, better. there is no more of that stupid hesitation if you get of the gas and right back on it. better gas milage, the car shifts like it should have from the factory, and removing the torque limiters. Ted will also work with you till you are happy......

owww by by AFM...... really the best thing to do, if you dont have it done is this I would get headers and a tune from Ted at the same time. Then a CAI and a free fresh tune from Ted, Then X pipe... Then differant mufflers.... You will also, want to look into a catch can. hope this helps.......

Tranny and engine tune really helps the A6.

Reducing torque management along with tuning the engine can make a significant improvement in torque. My performance/tranny tune gave me
around +20 ft lbs of TQ (max) with around 30+ ft lbs TQ under the curve where you really need it.

That along with faster/firmer shifts makes the car more fun.

Also, you can have your tap shift tuned to down shift at different speeds. My car is tuned to drop to 3rd gear at 30 mph, 2 gear at 20mph, and 1st gear at
10 mph.
So when I slow down below 10mph (using the tap shifts), my tranmission automatically drops to 1st gear. That way my tranny is always in 1st gear at very slow speeds.

Wow, alot of good stuff one here. I had forgot to mention if this was only for the M6, but i guess you can have it done with the automatic as well. I have been hearing ted is the must guy to see on here. Might have to get in touch with him. Would it matter if i got my car tuned already from somewhere else and just need a tranny tune now, or does it all have to be from the same guy?

The benefits are not as great on the M6 (strickly speaking tranny tune). Most guys pass on the tune (M6 tranny) until they've got a few basic mods (intake, headers, etc). Once you get a few mods (especially an intake and headers) a tune is a very worth while (some would say necessary) mod.

But on the A6, a tune makes a nice difference in performance even with the car is stock.

Thanks. As of right now, i got LG headers, high flo cats, slp loudmouth 1. I got a fast 102 intake but im not sure to put it on right now or not, some people say its not even worth it until i get a cam. I wont be doing that for a while, so its just sitting their. I got it because i got a really good deal on it.
