Battery Tender Questions

Happy Holidays Camaro Friends,

First question, where are we hooking our battery tenders under the hood or in the trunk?? And, second question, how are we covering our cars with this thing hooked up??

Under the hood. I`m not sure what you mean by covering the car while the battery tender is connected but if you mean closing the hood just feed the +/- connections from the bottom of the engine compartment up to the + terminal and ground (-) to the body.

I`m pretty sure you probably know where and what those look like but just in case here is a under hood photo of the terminal.

And you also have a Happy and Safe Holiday.

Trunk. I took out the light bulb in the trunk. I run the extension cable out the trunk and let the trunk lid just rest on it. My car cover still fits just fine over it.

Battery Tender, Dead Battery, Low Tires, Flat spots

This all started because I went out to start the car and move it before the snow and salt get here but as you can guess the battery was dead. I wasn't completely prepared for storage I guess. I need a battery tender. So I called chevy roadside assistance to come and give me a jump because my battery pack for jumping cars was also dead. Then I took it for a quick ride to wear out those flat spots on the tires and add 10 psi to my low tires. It didn't take long for the battery to die, the tires get low & flat spots.

Yeah those flats spots seem to develop even after a week of sitting. Seems to only last a couple miles though.

Here's a pic of the way I have it hooked up. Dropped the wire down through the engine compartment. Domino is covered with a NOAH car cover except for when I took this pic.

It came with "Quick Connect" wires, but it was too darn cold and it was quick to use the clamps.

Next warm day, I'll put the "Quick Connects" on.

Things to do for storage...
  1. Detail the car.
  2. Sea Foam(fuel stabilizer) in gas tank and then fill up and drive for a few minutes.
  3. Pump the tires up to 50 psi to avoid flatspotting if you don't have "FlatSpotters" to prevent it.
  4. In an unheated garage, cover garage floor with a waterproof tarp as moisture barrier.
  5. Cardboard or carpeting under tires to add another layer of protection between floor and tires.
  6. Moth balls by the tires to keep critters away
  7. PLAIN/UNTREATED charcoal briquettes in the passenger cabin and trunk to absorb odors.
  8. Steel wool in exhaust pipes to keep critters out(leave note on stearing wheel as a reminder)
  9. Hook up battery tender.
  10. Cover car with a NOAH car cover.
  11. DO NOT start until ready to drive it again in the spring.

Ditto. This is where I have my quick connect/disconnect installed. I extended the connector wires and routed the connector forward past the airbox and out thru the grill. Don't have to open anything and I just tuck it back into the grill for a sano look when I head out....

My Battery Sentinel came with a connector pigtail that has ring terminals. I drilled a hole in the under hood + lug and attached the + wire to the lug with a self-tapping screw and put the - lead under the airbox support post. This provides a good solid connection unlike alligator clips which may or may not pop off. In the spring I just disconnect the charger from the connector and tie wrap the pigtail to the battery cable until next year. As stated above, feed the cable out through the bottom so you can close the hood.

The silver, pencil shaped metal pin on the drivers side inner fender is the negative battery connection for battery tenders or for jump starting your car.

5 miles last night plus 10 psi in the low tires and they were gone.

GREAT LIST.

Only difference for me was I used Stabile instead of sea foam.
Went with 45 PSI instead of 50 PSI for the tires.
Placed sheets of plywood over the plastic barrier.
Used bounce sheets in the cabin and trunk for oder and critters.
Taped up the exhaust tips and will check a few times to see if anything is happening.
Covered with my home made cover. (6 king size top sheets sewn together.....FREE)

Everything else was the same.

AGAIN GREAT job with the list.
