Did production start early?
I was wondering if the Camaro production started earlier or not. From some of the things i have been hearing on here it has been making me wonder. I also heard that there is some kind of "surprise". Any one know whats going on?

yes and no. Scott says it takes about 4 days to completely build a camaro from the ground up. I would imagine that there are some partially completed camaros sitting on the production line waiting till tomorrow for the official start to be completed.

I wouldn't be suprised if they have cars already built still in line inside the plant so that at 8am tomorrow they can roll out #1.

Not only that let be realistic this is a business and big business wants the public to know what they want them to know. Sometimes it isn't always the way things really work. If the number one camaro is suppost to roll off tomorrow morning then as stated above it most likely was started last week sometime.

When I was at the Atlanta Auto Show yesterday the Camaro guy said they have been building a few before tomorrow and these cars have VIN's, including the 2 cars at the show- one 2SS and one 1LT. He said not more than 100 per week have been built. Don't know when that started.

depends on what you want to call the start of production... Scott S did say it takes 4 days to build the new Camaro from the start of assembly of the body parts till it comes off the kline, so it had to start a few days ago.. Officially it starts the day the first one rolls off the assembly line. VIN 100001
which will be sometime tomorrow morning. what we do know for certian is NONE of our preordered cars have been completed, On a happy note, things will progres much more quickly for all of us starting tomorrow.

Not sure about the camaro, but when I worked for Jeep, they started Liberty production about 2 months early. We had about 10k out and shipped by rail in secret before the actual "launch date". Of course they were all getting new transmisions, but still were coming off the line early.

Cameras are illegal inside the grounds. Anyone caught with one is likely to get fired (it has happened). However, I am sure there will be plenty of press or GM PR on hand to take approved pictures.

When I saw Scott he said vin #1 started last Thursday. So they did start early but not months or weeks in advance for production cars, not CTF's.

Actually it only takes 8 hours to build a vehicle once it leave the paintshop. 24 hours in total per car is what we shoot for, were usually under that as well.
